The show for this year’s tour is really one that carries the many feelings and thoughts of all in our troupe.
And finally, POWER of MUSIC will be taking off this weekend with our first date at Hiroshima.
I know everyone in TA understands me well enough to know that my throat’s condition is always changing. To make up for that, I have always been taking care of my vocal cords with all my heart, so much so that I may be a little too staunch sometimes.
During touring or recordings, and even during normal days when I’m not singing, in other words, protecting and treasuring my throat is something I do all 365 days of the year. It’s my foremost concern, and I never do any activity which I feel may tax my voice.
That’s why, and I’m being serious about this, I feel so very very upset and frustrated on days when I can’t sing right. Of course, those days are not uncommon, but I always tell myself that it can’t get any worse, and to just hold on till the end. And that is how I’ve overcome it all until now.
But.
After saying all that, well..
After going through days of perfect voice-protection, conserving it with all my heart, I am still not confident about myself…
I was feeling so frustrated by it, and was sooooooo depressed. And though I can talk about it freely now, the show this year has been really harsh on me. So much so that there were days when I didn’t want to go for rehearsals. When I thought singing was frightening.
But I scolded myself for this. If the troupe leader is like this, how can the show go on? If the troupe leader’s music is not strong enough to reach out, then won’t this show become a lie?
So I returned to the vocal training teacher who taught me how to sing almost 14 years ago, and set about learning everything from scratch again.
Becoming a student once again, I was at first overwhelmed by my own ignorance and rashness. I was caught up, lost and confused.
It was really pathetic, so I shan’t talk about that.
Anyway!
Under the sure and strict guidance of my teacher, my heart was renewed. I put all my energy into learning, spent my days being an earnest disciple…
And then???
Are you kidding me?!?!?!
Through stage-runs and costume rehearsals, I put my mind to it, and my voice just went on and on. Without breaking even once…
I was stunned.
All my negative thoughts due to anxiety and fright about the new stage were all suddenly, totally gone, it was that stunning.
And then, after the costume rehearsal, I saw my teacher and screamed out loud, “Teacher! This is crazy!!!” Which made her worry for a second, asking me, “What! What happened!?!” And I had to explain that “My voice is out, it’s crazy!!!!!” And we all laughed.
And though I have bloomed, I wish to continue my days as a disciple.
