Manchester United's stars are reportedly becoming bored of Louis Van Gaal's training methods.

A club insider told The Sun: "They are unhappy, it is just like Groundhog Day at the club. No matter whether they win, lose or draw nothing changes.

"Every Monday they know what they are doing, every Tuesday they know what they are doing, every day they know what they are doing.

"There is nothing different or exciting to look forward to and it is getting some players down."

Van Gaal has been on the receiving end of another blistering attack, this time from Dutch legend Willem van Hanegem, a member of the Holland team that reached the 1974 World Cup final.

He said: “PSV definitely got a good result against Manchester United (last week, 0-0) although we do not have to exaggerate.

“Saturday (against Leicester) I again looked at Manchester and I see that team play and (they make) tears shoot from my eyes.

“If you can spend ￡300 million, then you do not buy such a bunch of cake bakers.”

Sterile Man Utd need to start Memphis Depay up front with Martial

Anthony Martial can't do it all himself up front for Manchester United.

The 19-year-old attempted nine dribbles against Leicester City to try and spark some life into his team’s turgid attack, but failed to beat his man in five of those attempts; the Foxes crowding out and closing down the only real source of movement in the final third — on and off the ball — within Louis van Gaal’s forward line.

Perhaps, had it not been his first appearance since returning from injury, Martial may have been able to show a clean pair of heels to his markers in order to sprint clear and find the net, as he did against Liverpool and Southampton, scoring three in his first two league games in a United shirt. Instead, he looked laboured at the head of the 3-5-2 system selected by his manager — the same formation that saw the visitors lose 5-3 on their visit to the King Power Stadium last season.


Martial attempted nine take ons against Leicester, more than any other player on the field.


The effect of Memphis Depay’s arrival as a late substitute in the second-half was telling, both on the young striker and United’s overall attacking play. Coming on in place of Wayne Rooney, the difference between the Dutchman’s movement and that of his departed captain was dramatic. In just over 22 minutes, last year’s Eredivisie Player of the Year also managed to create a chance, attempt two take ons: more than the England international managed in 68.
Martial and Memphis have shown potential as a partnership, previously linking up well together against PSV Eindhoven, Southampton, Ipswich Town and Wolfsburg, often with Rooney left looking on the fringe of their link-up play. If Van Gaal is to persist with the back three system he deployed against Leicester, with Juan Mata played centrally in the hole, and wing-backs relied upon to provide some width out wide, then the natural affinity between his two summer signings should become the basis of his two-man attack.
