ZHULIAN ACHIEVED 38% GROWTH IN FY
2008
Proven strong business fundamentals and resilience in the face of
challenges
Zhulian Corporation Berhad (ZCB), a main-board listed company
specialising in Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) business has achieved a
remarkable growth in its Financial Year 2008 with a 37.65% growth in
revenue. The Group’s Pre-tax Profit has also increased by 27.77% to
RM94.993 million in the year under review, showing an increase of
RM20.645 million, as compared to the RM74.348 million achieved in the
preceding financial year. The Earnings per Share has also increased
from 18.05 sen to 21.65 sen per Share. The financial results represent a
strong improvement in the financial performance of the Group.
The Group’s Managing Director Danny M. K. Teoh had highlighted that
the Group has taken a few initiatives to propel the Group’s future
growth. One of them is to invest RM18 mil this year to expand the
ZHULIAN International Headquarters in its existing premises at the Bayan
Lepas Industrial Estate to house a bigger warehouse and also a new
manufacturing plant. This project is expected to be completed by end
of 2010.
Zhulian’s business network spans across four countries including
Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. For the Financial Year
ended 30 November (FY 2008), exports contributed 42% to the Group's
revenue. With the objective to strengthen its presence in Indonesia, PT.
Zhulian Indonesia has purchased a 25,000 sq. metres land that cost
RP16.5 bil at the Jababeka Industrial Estate, Cikarang in Indonesia to
build a regional head office with warehouse facilities. While in East
Malaysia, the Group will also set up a Distribution Centre in Kuching this
year, in addition to the one that has already been set up in 2007 in
Kota Kinabalu as part of its move to step up its logistic efficiency in the
region.
Currently, Zhulian has over 400,000 distributors across Malaysia, Thailand,
Indonesia and Singapore and has groomed innumerable successful

MLM entrepreneurs. The outstanding achievements of the Leaders are
recognised and showcased during its annual national convention,
namely “Night of Honour” in a grand award presentation ceremony.
This year’s Night of Honour that is scheduled to be held on 23 May 2009
at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur will carry a special
significance as the Company is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.
The turn-out is expected to exceed 12,000 people. Apart from this,
another major event that is held annually is the Diamond International
Forum. This year’s forum will take a total of 796 super achievers from
Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore to Auckland, New
Zealand. Another highlight is the factory visit event in which 3,000
delegates from Zhulian (Thailand) Ltd. will be visiting the Zhulian
International Headquarters next month. This will be one of the biggest
groups of visitors to participate in the factory visit programme that is
aimed to enabling distributors across the regions to gain more insight
into the Company’s solid foundation and strong know-how.
The Zhulian Group's core products include costume jewellery, food and
beverage items, and nutritional supplements under a variety of inhouse
brands, 80% of which are self-manufactured. It has a total of
three plants situated in Bayan Lepas, Penang, one of which had just
commenced its operations in July last year. The RM40 mil new facility,
which specialises in the manufacturing of food and beverage products
as well as nutritional supplements, is currently 50% utilised and has the
capacity to support the Group's growth for the next five years. The
GMP compliance status of one of the Group’s subsidiary, Zhulian
Nutraceutical Sdn. Bhd., has recently obtained the approval from the
National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau of the Ministry of Health
Malaysia and the company will commence operations to produce
nutraceutical products by 2010.
Meanwhile, the Group is planning to launch a series of products this
year in its move to generate continuous excitement and interest
among the consumers. Included in this series is ISO.7, a synergistic
blend of colourful fruit and vegetable extracts specially selected for
their efficacy in combating free radical effects and is aimed to provide
powerful antioxidant properties – 2 sachets > 5000 ORAC units for
maximum protection from chronic diseases and the continual revival of
cellular functions as well as for greater anti-aging effects. Another
brand new product line that will be launched in the middle of the year
under its subsidiary, Amazing Vestrax Sdn. Bhd will be the WANISA
SANITARY PRODUCTS that offer the unique 4-in-1 functions, namely the
Far Infrared Rays, Negative Ions, Anti-Bacterial and Deodorisation
functions.

Mr. Danny added that the group’s business is showing an encouraging
uptrend with a growth of 16% in its revenue for the 1st Quarter (FY 2009)
as compared to the corresponding period last year. He also said that a
first interim single tier dividend of 3 sen per share has been declared on
15 April 2009 and will be paid out to shareholders on 29 May 2009. “Our
objective is to strike a balance between rewarding our shareholders
and forging ahead with development plans, so that the company will
continue to move forward. We foresee that the MLM business industry
will be more challenging and increasingly competitive as a result of the
prevailing adverse economic conditions. However, we remain
optimistic and we are confident that we will be vigilant against
unexpected situations and will take all the necessary steps to prepare
for another challenging period ahead. In view of our steadily growing
distributor network and higher core distributors’ productivity as well as
more aggressive sales promotion activities in plan, we are well poised
to drive our business to a new and exciting level in the future.” Mr.
Danny concluded.
