SINGAPORE - The Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC) received a distress call on its 24-hour helpline on Sunday night (Dec 20) to check on and assist possibly distressed workers, the centre said in a Facebook post. MWC, together with officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), attended to the call at a large warehousing facility in the eastern part of Singapore. In their Facebook post on Monday, MWC described that the workers were living in a makeshift dormitory of container housing units which were "cramped and dirty, with workers having to make the most of any available space." They added that the workers cooked and slept in the same space, and there were only four showers and one toilet for what appeared to be around 100 workers. -
