1)Maybank Gold Savings Passport Account (GSPA):

Thinking about investing? Invest in stock market? Purchase a house or property? Unit Trust Funds? Invest in Gold?
Yes, gold offers secure value and it is easy to invest with Maybank GSPA!
Historically, the value of national currencies rises and falls but the value of gold remains, remarkably stable. Gold is an asset that does not depend upon governments or corporations promise to repay. It is not directly affected by the policies in any country and it cannot be repudiated or frozen, as in the case of assets.
Gold also acts as a reliable "store of value" not just because it fulfils the functions of money, but gold is also portable and divisible. Its weight is a good measurement of a unit of value. It is indestructible, relatively scarce and cannot be "manufactured". It is easily recognizable and acceptable as a form of payment worldwide.
Liquidity
At this moment, gold is still the most liquid asset in the world. It can be readily bought or sold 24-hours a day in one or more markets around the world.
This cannot be said of most investments, such as stocks or bonds of the world's largest corporations. In addition, the trading spreads on gold are generally narrower than the spreads on stocks and bonds (which are considered as liquid assets).
It takes about the same amount of time to execute a trade in gold as is does for stocks and bonds. Whether your investment approach is conservative or aggressive, gold always play a vital role in diversifying your investment portfolio.
Diversification of Portfolio
Many experts urge investors to keep a 1/3 of their total assets in forms of gold. A typical portfolio is invested primarily in financial assets such as stocks and bonds. Gold's low-to-negative correlation with stocks and bonds makes it an excellent portfolio diversifier.
Adding gold to a portfolio introduces an entirely different class of asset. Gold is unusual because it is both a commodity and a monetary asset. It is an 'effective diversifier' because its performance tends to move independently of other investments and key economic indicators.
Recent independent studies have shown that traditional diversifiers (such as bonds and alternative assets) often fail during times of market stress or instability. Even a small allocation of gold has been proven to significantly improve the consistency of portfolio performance during both stable and unstable financial periods.

FAQ:
1. What is GSPA?
GSPA is an account that allows individual customers to invest in gold in a convenient, more secure and cheaper way. Customers can purchase gold in 999.9 fineness at all Maybank Branches at daily quoted gold prices for 1g in Malaysian Ringgit and the transaction will be recorded in the GSPA passbook.
This will save customers' need to keep the gold physically and whenever they need to, they can conveniently withdraw from the GSPA.
2. Why would you want to open a GSPA?
GSPA is one of the best ways for a customer to build up a personal gold portfolio by purchasing small amounts of gold on regular basis over a period of time. This "cost averaging" will ensure that the total gold investment will be acquired at the average gold price.
3. What are the benefits of having a GSPA?
There are a number of benefits to customers and these include :
Convenience of investing in gold at any Maybank branch in Malaysia.
It is secure, being introduced by the country's largest bank, 100% backed by physical gold and in collaboration with the World Gold Council.
It is cheaper as the gold prices quoted will be pegged to international gold prices without the usual additional charges.
Customers can invest in small amounts at a time i.e. minimum 5 grams.
There are two flexible withdrawal options i.e. in Ringgit and Gold Wafers.
There is opportunity for capital gain if the gold price appreciates.
Gold can be a hedge against inflation.
4. How would you make a capital gain from investing in GSPA?
Internationally, the gold price is quoted in US Dollar per ounce. For Maybank, the gold price will be converted to the Malaysian Ringgit per gram. You will make a capital gain if the gold price appreciates.
5. Why interest is not paid for GSPA?
When a customer purchases gold through GSPA, this is recorded into a passbook. The Bank actually keeps the gold in safe custody for the customer and as such interest is not paid.
The Bank will charge the customer an administrative fee for this service at 1/4% p.a. on the highest gold balance per month. Maybank, however, does not levy this 1/4% administrative charge for the GSPA.
6. When is the right time to purchase gold?
The right time would be when the gold price is low.
7. Why can customers only exchange for the gold wafers at selected branches?
These selected branches are the ones that have stock of the gold wafers and hence can meet your withdrawal needs.
8. Can a customer sell back the gold wafers to the bank?
Yes, provided the gold wafers have the Maybank logo with the protective seal/cover and it is accompanied by the Sales Memo. Customers also have the option to be paid in Ringgit at the prevailing gold buying price, or by credit into the GSPA (@ Mid-rate), or credit into a Savings/Current account (@Buying rate).
9. Why is there a conversion charge for withdrawal from the GSPA in Gold wafers?
The conversion charge is actually the cost for minting the gold wafers from Switzerland as well as that for transportation and insurance.
10. Will the gold price quoted daily be better than at goldsmith shops?
The price of gold quoted daily will be pegged to the international gold price and will definitely be better than goldsmith shops without the usual "workmanship" charges.
11. Will the Bank accept deposits in gold e.g. gold jewellery?
The Bank will only accept gold wafers purchased from the Bank but not other gold deposits e.g. gold jewellery.
