GEORGE TOWN: The move by Penang Forum to complain to Unesco over concerns regarding the Sia Boey archaeological site may jeopardise the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).
Wong Hon Wai, political secretary to the Chief Minister, said this may give the federal government reasons to reject the PTMP for putting the George Town World Heritage Site at risk.
"The PTMP is essential to provide public transport as a solution to traffic congestion," he said in a statement today.
The Penang administration and NGOs are at loggerheads after the umbrella body for NGOs requested Unesco to conduct an assessment of the site after several artefacts were uncovered.
Wong said Penang Forum did not inform the state about the letter sent to Unesco and signed by Penang Island City Council councillor Dr Lim Mah Hui who is also a member of Penang Forum.
He pointed out the state had been transparent with Mah Hui and the move to complain to Unesco was tantamount to unprofessional behaviour.
"Why is Mah Hui so afraid to inform the state government that he has complained to Unesco?" he asked.
Wong also dismissed the challenge from Mah Hui to have him sacked from the council, as a Penang Institute director and as a Penang Transport Council member.
"The Penang state government has no intention to sack Mah Hui for expressing his dissenting views," he said but added the people will judge whether it was proper to go to Unesco without informing the state. |

他這種專業技術出身的，要他做秘書管行政，他不會開心的。雖然做主席/市長也是管行政，但是權力身份地位榮譽感不一樣，沒有人不喜歡的。
來，不知道我猜得對嗎，就是他臨退休的前一兩年才把他升上去，讓他過過癮，也可以拿好一點的退休金，讓他安撫安撫跟他打拼多年的手下來繼續效忠神。你看是這樣嗎？
