Dear Sir I refer to the subject matter above. Before Nov 2014, the number of officers working from 5am to 8am was always enough to handle the number of cars going through the checkpoint toward Singapore. There were queues but they were in order. However, ever since the school holiday started from Nov 2014, the number of officers working has been reduced to less than 8 from 5 to 8am. Initially, people thought that it might be due to the long school holiday as officers were taking leave. However, the situation continues and remains the same ever since. I would like to seek your help to check with the immigration department and find out what is happening to our large workforce in that Department. Their refusal to deploy sufficient manpower to clear the checkpoint was a disservice to the rakyat. The queues were geting worse each day and today was the worst that I have ever seen. The traffic was in a chaos but there was not a single officer coming out from their comfortable offices to manage the bad traffic. Cars collided with each other, cars broke down because of the horrible queues, busess and lorries had trouble getting through the queues. This is how chaotic the situation was. The Department's refusal to deploy enough manpower to work for the peope has caused a lot of unneccessary social cost to the rakyat. I have seen people voicing their dissatisfaction over the social media but I think it's best to seek help from our PM, the Home Ministry, the Immigration Department, the state Government, and the MPs. That’s why I wrote this email to you, as well as the parties I mentioned above. Please help the rakyat by asking the immigration department to deploy enough manpower to do their work from 5am to 8am in the morning. While the rakyat have to wake up at 4am to earn a living, our public offices cannot be seen as doing less and less yet their number of manpower is getting more every year. LIfe is hard. We are not asking the government to give more than the reasonable but only the civil servants to do what they are employed to do - have proper work planning, know when they need to deploy more people duing peak traffic period, plan ahead, understand the need of their customers, and work with pride to provide the right services. The immigration department officers need to understand that working is not just for a pay, humans work to also serve a purpose. As what a carpenter feels proud about having constructed a solid and durable cabinet, our immigration officers should feel proud about understanding the plight of the commuters and provide the necessary services to meet the need of the rakyat.
I thank you for your time to read this long mail of a rakyat and wish you a great year ahead.
