New affordable homes under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) programme may soon feature solar panels, according to Ahmad Hadri Haris, chief executive officer of Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia) and reported in the media.
He revealed that discussions regarding the matter will be held with relevant authorities.
“The cost of installing solar panels in the houses will not be too high as it will be done on a large scale. PR1MA houses will still be affordable,” he said at the Sixth Young Corporate Malaysian Summit.
“What’s more significant is that homeowners will pay a very minimal electricity bill, or none at all in the long term.”
A non-profit organisation under the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry, GreenTech Malaysia aims to position Malaysia as a hub for green technology by 2020 and transform the country into a green community comes 2030.
Meanwhile, the government has approved 90,491 PR1MA units nationwide during the first 10 months of 2014.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government targets to build 500,000 PR1MA homes over the next five years, with prices ranging from RM118,000 to RM335,000.
Notably, PR1MA is for families or individuals with a monthly household income of between RM2,500 and RM10,000. |
