KUCHING: Parkson Corporation’s ‘My Park’ corporate social responsibility initiative — which aims to adopt public spaces in towns and cities — has selected Kenyalang Park Recreation Ground here as a starting point in Sarawak.
Its chief operating officer Toh Peng Koon said at the launching of ‘Parkson The Spring’ yesterday that the company had started discussions with the Kuching City South Council on the proposal.
“We aim to adopt a park in every locality where we operate, and in Kuching, we have identified Kenyalang Park Recreation Ground,” Toh said in his opening address.
The COO said the initiative was part of Parkson’s 20th anniversary celebrations which falls this year, “and is our way of contributing to the community”.
“In parks that we have adopted, we are not only introducing exercising apparatus and playground equipment, but Parkson staff throughout the country have also volunteered their time to up-keep the adopted parks,” Toh said.
He added that the safety and a clean and friendly environment was their priority.
Starting today, Parkson’s flagship store in East Malaysia is open to the public at tHe Spring shopping mall.
It opens with more than 300 brands of merchandises, many of which are being featured for the first time in Kuching — like a section operated by Toy’s R Us.
