Formation: 4-4-2
Goalkeeper
Francesco Benussi (Lecce): Despite playing with ten men for more than half the game, Lecce earned a creditable 2-1 win at Siena, and much of the thanks must go to goalkeeper Benussi, who produced a string of excellent saves to win his side all three points.
Defence
Juan Camilo Zuniga (Siena): Irrepressible during the same game, bombing up and down the right flank. Did not deserve to be on the losing side, and it is not impossible to understand why Zuniga has been tagged by some as the heir to Brazil legend Cafu.
Domenico Criscito (Genoa): Although Criscito actually played in a midfield role during the win over Palermo, we move him back into his natural defensive position to make this line-up. Scored the only goal of the game with just two minutes remaining as the Rossoblu tighten their grip on fourth place.
Thomas Manfredini (Atalanta): Helped keep the Atalanta defence together during the narrow 1-0 home win over Catania. Manfredini is a very important presence at the back for the Nerazzurri.
Marek Jankulovski (Milan): Like a train in Milan’s thrashing of Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Made numerous overlapping runs, and was almost like a winger at times. Nearly opened the scoring after a sublime solo run.
Midfield
David Beckham (Milan): A world class display during the 3-0 win, as Beckham’s dream Serie A stay just gets better and better. Provided two excellent assists for Milan’s first two goals, and also put Kaka clean through when the Brazilian hit the post. Beckham’s passing - short, mid-range and long, was immaculate.
Andrea Pirlo (Milan): Starting to hit top form again is Pirlo. Ran the show in midfield, spraying passes all over the pitch, and dictating the tempo. This was the Pirlo of the 2006 World Cup.
David Pizarro (Roma): Scored both of his side’s goals, including one absolute screamer, but this still was not enough as Roma could only draw 2-2 at bottom club Reggina. Nevertheless, Pizarro was a real little pocket dynamo in midfield.
Alessandro Rosina (Torino): Has not had the easiest of seasons so far, but his natural talent is without question. He displayed this in abundance during Torino’s surprise draw at Inter. Caused Jose Mourinho’s men all kinds of problems.
Attack
Jeda (Cagliari): Keeps his place in Team of the Week after yet another mesmerising showing, inspiring Cagliari to a shock 3-2 win in Turin over Juventus. The Bianconeri defence could not cope with the silky skills of the Brazilian, who also got on the scoresheet.
Fabio Quagliarella (Udinese): Followed up his fine performance against Juventus in midweek with another one in the 2-2 draw at Napoli. Quagliarella’s movement caused problems, and he earned his side a point with a contender for goal of the season - a quite stunning first time volley.
