Manchester United have secured the £25million capture of Luke Shaw.
United have reached agreement with Southampton for the signature of the left-back, who has been included in England's World Cup squad.
Personal terms are understood to be a formality between Shaw and United, with the teenager set to treble his wages to £75,000-a-week in a five year deal.
Asked who was behind the development of Thomas Muller at Bayern Munich, Van Gaal said: 'When I go to a new club, I always want to keep one coach from the existing staff.
'At Bayern that person was Herman Kerland, who is still working there now under Pep Guardiola.
'I wanted to know who was coming through the youth system. I always want to know that.
'He is the man who said to me: "Muller, Badstuber and Alaba. These are the players."
'So I let them train with the first team, I observed them – and then I decided where they were going to play.'
Jesse Lingard, Nick Powell, Michael Keane, James Wilson, Tom Lawrence, Davide Petrucci, Andreas Pereira, Saidy Janko take note.
