Collison's free throws lift Thunder to 87-86 win

OKLAHOMA CITY(AP) Kevin Durant scored 31 points to tie a franchise record for consecutive 30-point games, Nick Collison hit the tying and go-ahead free throws 4.5 seconds left, and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Utah Jazz 87-86 on Thursday night.
Collison came away with the ball after Durant missed a jumper from the right wing, and was fouled by Paul Millsap in the process.
After hitting only one of his previous four foul shots, Collison made both to give the Thunder their first five-game winning streak in more than four years.
Ronnie Price missed a 3-pointer from the right side at the final buzzer for Utah, which got a final surge from Deron Williams to pull ahead before Collison's game-winning free throws.
Carlos Boozer scored 17 points, and Mehmet Okur had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz. Williams scored 10 of his 14 points in the final 5 minutes, including a three-point play with 58 seconds left that gave Utah the lead.
Durant surpassed 30 points for the sixth straight game, tying a franchise record set by Spencer Haywood in January 1972. He and Jeff Green ran together for a mid-air chest bump after Price's shot caromed off the rim, and white, red, yellow and blue balloons dropped from the rafters.
The win gave the Thunder the same 18-14 record as Utah, one year after a New Year's Eve win against Golden State was only their fourth of the season.

SALT LAKE CITY (NBA.com exclusive) -- With starters Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups both out of the lineup against Utah on Saturday night, Denver Nuggets coach George Karl kept his strategy simple.
"The basic game plan was to play hard and figure the game out as it happens," Karl said. "No one could write the script on how we were going to win tonight until the game got going."
The Nuggets outplayed the Jazz in several aspects, but sticking to the premise of playing hard without their two stars was the difference in Denver's 105-95 win over the Jazz. The Nuggets (21-12) put together a better effort on both ends of the floor, forced 26 turnovers and dominated Utah (18-15) in the paint in their victory.
Anthony, who is second in the NBA in scoring averaging 30 points per game, missed his first game of the season with a right knee contusion. Billups sat out for the fifth time in six games with a left groin strain.
"We've got a lot of leadership," said Denver guard Arron Afflalo, who provided the Nuggets with a lift with 13 points and three 3-pointers. "To have Chauncey and 'Melo out and still win says a lot about the other guys on this team. Everybody's confidence picks up and when those two get back we'll be even better."
Rookie Ty Lawson took full advantage of his starting opportunity and the Jazz had no answer for him. Lawson displayed his stunning quickness to get to the basket and made smart decisions with the ball. He tied his season-high with 23 points and dished nine assists. He also had three steals.
"Kid has a chance to be a great player and tonight we needed him," Karl said. "I don't know if he was great, but he played a damn good game. He was in control of the game and that doesn't happen very often by anybody on this court. It's a tough place to play."
Everywhere outside of Denver has been tough for the Nuggets to play lately. They had lost six straight road games before beating Utah with a shorthanded team, earning an unexpected result.
"The only way I thought we could beat them was to score in the open court, score off of turnovers and try to create some defensive plays," Karl said.
Nene and Kenyon Martin anchored Denver's defensive effort, pushing the Jazz out of the paint while racking up several deflections. The Nuggets disrupted some of Utah's favorite sets with ball pressure, and the Jazz had to take many outside jumpers with hands in their faces. Utah's 26 turnovers led to 33 Denver points.
"They did some kind of job defensively on us," said Utah coach Jerry Sloan. "They made it very difficult for us all night long. They got after us, made us take tough shots, and they stayed after it. It was a tough loss, but give them credit. They played extremely well."
Denver had a much easier time getting to the basket than the Jazz did. The Nuggets couldn't buy a basket in the early going, missing seven of their first eight shots. So they adjusted and attacked Utah's defense. Denver set the tone for the game by scoring 18 of its first 22 points in the paint.
Nene had 22 points and six steals. Martin had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Nuggets finished with 64 points in the paint, compared to 48 for Utah. Denver doubled Utah in fast break points, 24-12.
"That's the way we want to play," said Denver guard J.R. Smith, who had 18 points and four assists. "That's when we're at our best. We just gotta keep it up the rest of the year."

新奥尔良黄蜂奔赴能源解决中心挑战犹他爵士。此战前黄蜂战绩为15胜16负，而爵士则为18胜15负，而克里斯-保罗和德隆-威廉姆斯这两位新生代当中的最强控卫也在本场比赛中正面展开对决。最终保罗凭借关键时刻的出色表现引领黄蜂91-87险胜对手，而他也得以在和德隆的交锋中不再因为处于绝对劣势而继续被人非议。

上半场过后保罗显然不会感到满意，4投0中的糟糕手感，两节下来只有2分和3次助攻入账，并且还有2次失误。在和前两节4投3中拿下10分和7次助攻并且没有一次失误的威廉姆斯的交锋中，保罗完全的处于了下风。作为2005年第四顺位被选中的新秀，保罗在个人评价和数据方面一直以来都略微领先当年第三顺位被选中的威廉姆斯，然而在两人的交手中保罗却处于绝对的劣势。在两人13次对决中，黄蜂仅仅赢得其中的2场胜利，而保罗场均15.9分8.9次助攻投篮命中率仅为42%的发挥也逊色于威廉姆斯的场均16.5分8.2次助攻和55.2%的命中率。然而需要一提到是，在两人交锋中保罗的2.2次抢断明显胜过威廉姆斯的0.9次抢断，而在今天比赛的最后时刻，也是威廉姆斯和保罗的抢断决定了两队的命运。

对历史不认命的保罗虽然下半场又是接连三次出手未果，但球队还是在他稳健的组织和送出助攻的情况下慢慢的完成了反超。在对布朗送出助攻令后者命中三分球后，保罗终于通过上篮命中了他本场比赛的第一个进球，将自己连续投篮不中的纪录停止在了7次。而此后保罗再度助攻布朗命中三分，找到信心的他也再次通过上篮得到两分，双方分差转眼间拉开到了两位数。不过威廉姆斯也不甘示弱，本节拿下5分2次助攻的他用一记压哨的三分球证明了爵士并未放弃比赛的决心。三节战罢黄蜂69-62领先7分，单节净胜对手14分，但比赛悬念仍旧存在。

随着威廉姆斯接连送出助攻，爵士第四节开始不久就将比分迫近到了72-75，保罗和威廉姆斯的巅峰对决此时才正式开始。保罗助攻克里森完成上篮，威廉姆斯则亲自上篮得手还以颜色。在比分重新战平之后，保罗开始显现出望着风采。他的抛投让黄蜂再度取得了领先优势，而此后这位超级控卫又再次助攻布朗命中三分，并在比赛还有2分13秒跳投得手，黄蜂基本锁定胜局，而保罗在关键时刻的发挥，也得以完全的压倒了虽然数据比他出色，但在这段时间里只出手一次却没能够命中的威廉姆斯。尽管比赛还有50秒时威廉姆斯完成了抢断，但之后保罗又成功的抢断下威廉姆斯的球并随即攻进了决定胜负的一球，在两人最终的交锋当中，保罗用这样的表现引领球队赢得了胜利，而抢断这一本来被认为随机性颇强调数据，也在比赛的关键时刻而发挥了神奇的作用。

Brown's career night helps Hornets get rare road win

SALT LAKE CITY (NBA.com exclusive) -- They got a career night from sharpshooter Devin Brown, played excellent defense in the third quarter and had to dig out of a double-digit deficit.
And with the game on the line in the fourth quarter, the New Orleans Hornets knew where to turn: Chris Paul.
Paul ignited a late spurt and single-handedly made a four-point turn in the Hornets' 91-87 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday night. It was New Orleans' third win in 16 road games this season.
"It's big, as terrible as we've been on the road this year," Paul said. "I think we showed a lot of grit, a lot of poise. We fought hard to win this game."
With the game tied 79-79, Paul took over. He rebounded his own miss to keep a possession alive, and David West made a shot to give New Orleans (16-16) a lead it wouldn't relinquish against the Jazz (18-16). Paul assisted on a 3-pointer by Brown, and then hit a 17-foot jumper to give the Hornets an 86-79 lead.
Paul's biggest play came during a dangerous sequence for New Orleans. Ahead 86-82, the Jazz collected a rebound and started a fast break. Outnumbered near his own basket, Paul stole a pass by Deron Williams that was intended for Andrei Kirilenko, then made a driving layup to put the Hornets in control at 88-82 with 27 seconds left.
"It just came at the right time," Paul said of the pass he stole from Williams. "I've always had a knack for stealing the ball. That was great timing."
Paul, like many of the Hornets, started slowly against the Jazz. New Orleans fell behind by 12 points in the first quarter, but was able to get going thanks to Brown's hot hand. Brown scored a career-high 30 points and sank five 3-pointers.
Brown played for the Jazz during the 2005-06 season before he was traded to Golden State in a deal that sent Derek Fisher to Utah for one season.
"To come in here and show the things I did here -- hit 3's, play hard, I was able to show that tonight," Brown said. "But we were concentrating more on getting back to .500 and we were able to do that."
The Jazz suffocated Paul in the first half, trapping him off of ball screens and forcing him into an 0-for-4 shooting effort with just two points and two turnovers. The Hornets' offense opened up in the second half when Utah had to account for Brown.
"Obviously the MVP of the game tonight is Devin Brown," Paul said. "Early in the game they could contain me on the ball screens. They (the Jazz) were helping out for him. Once he got his shot going, I could get going a little bit."

Jazz sign D-League's Gaines as No. 3 point guard

The newest member of the Utah Jazz might not have to wait long for a chance to play.
The Jazz filled their need for a third point guard Tuesday when they signed Sundiata Gaines out of the NBA Development League.
Pending the outcome of a physical, Gaines will be available for Wednesday night's game against Memphis at EnergySolutions Arena.
Because starting point guard Deron Williams might not play against the Grizzlies, Gaines' arrival is perfectly timed.
Williams suffered a sprained right wrist in the fourth quarter of Monday night's 91-87 loss to New Orleans.
He did not participate in practice Tuesday morning and was scheduled to undergo an MRI examination later in the day.
Williams' availability against Memphis will be a game-time decision, according to Jazz spokesman Jonathan Rinehart.
If Williams can't play, veteran backup Ronnie Price will likely start. Gaines could see some action behind him.
"I thought it was going to be a regular day at practice, getting ready for the game tomorrow. I'm just looking forward to the opportunity," Gaines said. "Obviously they saw something in me personally. I'm going to come in and help the team, going to do whatever coach wants me to do and take it day by day."
Gaines comes to Utah from the D-League's Idaho Stampede and the University of Georgia.
A 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, Gaines played four years at Georgia but was not selected in the 2008 NBA Draft. He spent last season in Italy.

After turning down offers to play overseas again, Gaines attended summer camp with the Atlanta Hawks and started the season in the D-League.
"I thought about going back overseas, but I decided to follow my heart, which was the NBA," he said. "I'm still young, 23, and I can always go overseas. I decided to take the pay cut this year and try to showcase myself."
With the Stampede, Gaines averaged 23.9 points and 6.9 assists.
"He's a young guy, so he's got a lot ahead of him," said Idaho coach Bob MacKinnon. "He's an explosive guy. He plays real well off the pick-and-roll. He's got great strength and shooting ability ... [and] a lot of upside."
Utah Flash coach Brad Jones faced Gaines in the D-League.
"He is a very tough competitor that fits kind of what the Jazz will be looking for," Jones said. "He's a really good scorer off the dribble, he can make a three-pointer and his assist numbers are pretty high, too. So he [gets] guys involved, which is kind of what you're looking for when you're bringing in a 13th guy, right?"
The Jazz have been without a third point guard since Dec. 22, when rookie Eric Maynor was traded to Oklahoma City in a financially-motivated deal that also enabled Utah to rid itself of Matt Harpring's $6.5 million contract.
Williams is the Jazz's leading scorer at 19.6 points per game.
He was injured with 5:35 left in the loss to New Orleans when he drove to the basket and scored, cutting New Orleans' lead to 77-74.
After Williams released the shot, the Hornets' James Posey accidentally took his legs out from under him, causing him to crash to the floor.
In the locker room after the game, Williams said his wrist was "pretty sore."

       德隆因伤将休战一场 爵士火速签NBDL大将救急

犹他爵士已经签下了来自于NBDL的后卫爱达荷奔腾队的桑迪亚特·吉恩斯。

据悉，犹他爵士和桑迪亚特·吉恩斯签下的是一份为期10天的短合同。因为与雷霆的交易，爵士阵容中只有11名球员，比NBA规定的最大人数为12名球员上场的球员数字还少了一人。爵士经历奥康纳表示，只要吉恩斯通过体检，他将会参加比赛。

吉恩斯大学四年实在乔治亚大学度过的，但他在2008年的选秀中无人问津，随后转战意大利联赛，他本赛季在爱达荷奔腾队是场均得到24分和差不多5个篮板的数据。

砍生涯3000助攻不足喜 德隆伤手腕需每日观察

爵士队当家后卫德隆·威廉姆斯在今天的比赛中拿到了职业生涯的第3000次助攻，他是NBA历史上第9快拿到这一数据的球员，也是爵士队史第4位拿到3000次助攻的球员。

不过在今天的比赛里，德隆的右手腕却遭受了扭伤和撞伤。赛后的X光检查结果为阴性，目前他已经被放进了每日观察名单。

      知情人曝爵士仅德隆非卖 犹他欲交易布泽尔

由于球队战绩的不如意以及面临沉重的奢侈税的困扰，消息人士透露，爵士愿意交易球队内除了德隆·威廉姆斯外的任何人。

爵士本赛季的薪金总额达到了7700万美元，而且其中有五人的薪水至少达到了900万。现在的问题就是他们想要卸掉一部分薪金负担，与此同时还可以让球队保持竞争力。

说到交易，卡洛斯·布泽尔毫无疑问还是爵士最希望交易走的人，布泽尔本赛季的薪水为1260万美元，而且他已经吸引了很多球队的兴趣，但是消息人士透露，爵士还没有认真讨论如何交易布泽尔。某支球队的高层人士透露，爵士想要通过送走布泽尔得到很多回报。

Brewer, Miles step up in Jazz win

SALT LAKE CITY (NBA.com exclusive) -- There isn't a team in the NBA that can get the Utah Jazz out of a slump like the Memphis Grizzlies.
With Deron Williams in street clothes, with Carlos Boozer in early foul trouble, with a point guard making his NBA debut and playing extended minutes in the second quarter, the Jazz were still able to defeat what was a hot Memphis team 117-94 on Wednesday night.
Utah (18-17) has now defeated Memphis (17-17) 11 straight times and by an average margin of 16.9 points per game.
Players such as Carlos Boozer and C.J. Miles said they weren't sure why the Jazz have had the Grizzlies' number, but the reasons for their latest win over Memphis were obvious. They shared the ball, got good shots, knocked them down and played great defense throughout the game.
"Our guys played pretty well," said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. "We passed the ball. When you pass the ball, and share the ball, you get a lot of easy baskets. I thought our guys did a great job of doing that."
The Jazz were able to efficiently execute their offense without Williams, who sat out after spraining his right wrist in the fourth quarter of Utah's 91-87 loss to New Orleans on Monday. It was the third game he's missed this season, and the first one because of injury.
Without their starting point guard, Utah had a season-high 39 assists. Ronnie Brewer dished a career-high 10 assists and Miles scored a season-high 24 points. Ronnie Price started in Williams' place and shared point guard duties with Sundiata Gaines, who was signed from the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League on Tuesday.
Brewer and Miles also took turns playing point with Price and Gaines and all four players were effective on both ends of the floor.
"Ronnie Price and Ronnie Brewer got our defense going, and we just took off from there," Boozer said. "We got layup, after layup, after layup and it started with those two."

犹他爵士队与孟菲斯灰熊队时隔两天后再次交手，上一场灰熊在爵士主场输球，不过今天他们回到主场复仇成功，依靠着盖伊和兰多夫的出色表现91-89击败爵士队。

爵士队德隆继续缺阵，奥库得到16分6篮板，布泽尔13分12篮板4助攻，普莱斯10分9助攻，米尔萨普15分，科沃尔10分。灰熊队盖伊砍下22分7篮板，兰多夫得到29分15篮板，梅奥低迷只得到14分。

开场后布泽尔内线强打为爵士先得2分，不过盖伊连砍4分，兰多夫和加索尔内线发威，灰熊开场取得了12-4的领先。之后奥库、米尔萨普连续冲击内线得手，爵士比分追到12-15只差3分。但是盖伊、梅奥、康利和兰多夫多点开花，打出一波13-0的高潮，将领先优势扩大到16分。而爵士在最后5分钟时间居然只有奥库得到2分，上半场结束灰熊队33-14领先了19之多。

进入第二节爵士队才逐渐找到感觉，马修斯开场连砍4分，将分差缩小到15分。加索尔和梅奥连续制造犯规，罚球帮助灰熊将分差扩大后，爵士队布泽尔和科沃尔连续中远距离投篮得分，比赛还剩1分钟时普莱斯的三分球帮助爵士追到只差7分，而马库斯-威廉姆斯内线强打得分，半场结束灰熊49-40领先9分。

进入下半场，兰多夫的中投帮助灰熊领先11分，而布泽尔用4分1助攻的表现，将比分追到46-51。之后盖伊和梅奥连续发威，第三节还剩5分钟时灰熊60-51领先9分。爵士队布鲁尔、奥库、普莱斯发威，追到59-63只差4分。而兰多夫和马库斯-威廉姆斯接连内线造成杀伤，第三节还剩44秒领先了爵士7分，但是奥库的三分球帮助爵士前三节比赛结束追到67-71.

最后一节较量，兰多夫开场连砍4分，卡罗尔和梅奥也分别建功，第四节进行一半，灰熊79-72维持住7分优势。不过之后爵士队疯狂反扑，米尔萨普和基里连科成为奇兵，帮助爵士在比赛还剩3分钟时追到85-86只差1分。最后时刻布泽尔上篮得手帮助爵士反超1分，而康利和梅奥的罚球4中2，灰熊又取得2分领先，最后时刻迈尔斯上篮被加索尔封盖，最终灰熊91-89击败爵士。

客场挑战小牛。。。    处下风。。。 估计 40-60。。。

Deron William 最近打小牛都很活跃的 （对到前辈偶像 jason kidd)。。。 不懂他能上场吗？

如果 Deron 上场，会有 45%胜率。如果Deron 100% 状态，应该有 50-50 的机会。

今天Boozer犯了无数次的无谓规。。。一上场不到两分钟就两犯了，所以才被对方猛追猛打１４－３３结束第一节。。。。再到回来。。最后一节last minute也是犯了完毕。。。。连C.J.Miles都失准。。哇。。。今天看到korver发挥稳定，拿到球就投，很帅。。。希望能够像以前一样。。。场场都能投也耐打。。。
   看来小牛会把爵士拉下马，因为今天他们在马刺主场的比赛真的很＂狠＂最后一节竟然是４２－２３，而且也在落后多分数追回来再反超。。。最后一分半钟来个８－０来结束比赛。。。够狠够狠。。如果明天D.Will无法出赛。。。那对比率是３５－６５。。。没得打。。。

西部两强的对决，开场就非常焦灼，布鲁尔、奥库和德隆的进球帮助爵士取得领先，而诺维茨基连得4分，记得三分命中，小牛队紧紧咬住比分。双方开场就四次打平比分，在10平之后德隆和布泽尔双星闪耀，基里连科和奥库锦上添花，爵士逐渐将比分拉开，比赛还剩2分钟时22-18领先小牛4分。而最后阶段小牛连续投球不进，爵士抓住机会布鲁尔连砍4分，首节结束他们26-18领先了小牛队8分。

次节较量，开场4分钟小牛队状态低迷只得到4分，而爵士这边米尔萨普、马修斯、基里连科不断砍分，半场还剩8分半钟36-22领先了小牛14分。诺天王连续中投得手，马里昂抢到前场篮板补篮命中，小牛队的进攻才渐渐找到状态，比分追到28-38。米尔萨普和奥库将分差又拉大到14分后，马良和诺维茨基4分钟合砍12分，分差迫近到7分。不过德隆的三分球帮助爵士50-40领先10分结束上半场。

　　爵士本赛季战绩不佳，之间曾有消息称，除了德隆之外，爵士没有非卖品。虽然卡洛斯-布泽尔、梅米特-奥库和安德烈-基里连科都是全明星球员，但是只有德隆才是盐湖城的灵魂，他和杰里-斯隆是爵士的两大法宝。

　　德隆本赛季场均能够得到19.5分9.8次助攻4个篮板，投篮命中率49.1%，三分命中率38.4%。虽然在助攻榜上德隆排在史蒂夫-纳什和克里斯-保罗之后位列第三，但是在球队助攻方面，爵士高居联盟榜首。相比于太阳和黄蜂的一人球队，爵士才是真正的团队篮球的典范。

　　在爵士的体系中，德隆毫无疑问是最重要的一环。除了审时度势送出助攻之外，德隆的持球时间并不太长。相比于纳什和保罗牢牢地把球权控制在自己手里，德隆往往是把球运到半场之后，交给翼侧的球员，然后以一个UCLA高位切入开启进攻。纳什和保罗通常是自己在弧顶持球，指挥队友跑位，然后寻求一传到位的效果。而德隆则是利用自己的掩护和跑位，来为队友创造机会。爵士队中，所有人都能够分享球，处理球，这也让对手防不胜防。

　　很多人都认为爵士的体系就是建立在德隆和布泽尔的挡拆上，其实爵士和洛杉矶湖人是上赛季NBA中使用挡拆最少的球队。德隆对战术的理解能力，远远不止是挡拆这么简单。掩护和空切才是爵士战术体系的核心，而德隆无疑是最适合这个体系的球员。在对方防守强度增大，爵士打不开局面时，德隆总是会挺身而出，接管比赛。虽然德隆持球并不多，但是他的进攻效率非常高，无论是突破造成杀伤还是外线投篮，都非常出色。到目前为止，他是爵士的得分王，而他每场比赛的出手只不过是14.5次而已。

　　在今天的比赛中，德隆对位杰森-基德丝毫不落下风。虽然基德11投7中，三分球5投4中得到19分5篮板8助攻，效率非常高，但是德隆13投7中，三分球7投3中的表现，同样是星光熠熠。相比于基德，德隆在组织进攻方面或许仍有不足，但是德隆强大的进攻能力让他即使在无球时，对对手也是一个非常大的威胁。如果能够在防守端更加努力的话，或许他和保罗、纳什的第一控卫之争早已没有了悬念。超级新星布兰顿-詹宁斯也曾经在自己的微博上说道，德隆-威廉姆斯才是他心目中的第一控卫。

　　讽刺的是，虽然他和保罗谁更优秀的争议一直没有停止，但是保罗已经是全明星赛的常客，而德隆至今还在等待他的第一次全明星之旅。德隆的前辈约翰-斯托克顿1984年进入联盟，在1988-89赛季迎来了自己的全明星首秀。今年2月份的达拉斯牛仔体育馆，会让我们看到德隆的身影吗？

　　布泽尔今年夏天离开盐湖城似乎已经是板上钉钉的事情，而保罗-米尔萨普在进攻端依然还需要磨练。爵士上个月为了清理薪金空间送走了表现不俗的新秀控卫埃里克-梅诺，这也让德隆身上的担子越来越重。毫无疑问，爵士会围绕着德隆来建队，不要再把德隆和布泽尔称为新犹他双煞了，在约翰-斯托克顿和卡尔-马龙之后，爵士再无双煞，现在的犹他，是德隆一人的球队。

Williams returns to lead rare Utah romp in Dallas

DALLAS (NBA.com exclusive) -- There was no miraculous fourth-quarter rally for Dallas this time.
The Jazz handed the Mavericks their worst home beating of the season with a rare 111-93 victory at the American Airlines Center, just their third win at the arena since it opened in 2001.
Dallas-area native Deron Williams returned to the lineup after missing two games with a bruised right wrist and led Utah with 20 points and nine assists. Five other players scored in double figures for the Jazz, who shot a sizzling 61 percent in the second half and 53 percent overall. They hurt the Mavericks from just about every angle, shooting 47 percent (8-for-17) from 3-point range and outscoring them 50-34 in the paint. The Jazz had a season-low five turnovers and scored 19 points off 13 Dallas miscues.
"They were moving the ball and they were making shots," Mavericks guard J.J. Barea said. "They were cutting and rebounding. You have to give them a lot of credit. They came to play."
Dallas had won the last six meetings here by an average margin of 12.2 points, including a 96-85 win on Nov. 3 that featured an incredible comeback. The Mavericks trailed by 16 with less than nine minutes remaining in that meeting, but finished the game with a 36-9 run as Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 of his 40 points in the fourth period.
The Mavericks had another fourth-quarter explosion Friday night in San Antonio, overcoming a 10-point deficit with 42 points in the final frame for a 112-103 triumph.
This time, the hole was just too deep. Utah blew open its 50-40 halftime lead with a 20-8 burst to start the second half. Two free throws by Williams with 6.3 seconds left in the third quarter gave the Jazz their largest lead at 83-59. The Mavericks made a little run to get within 13 points with five minutes remaining, but Utah kept them at bay by shooting 63 percent (12-for-19) in the quarter. Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver each scored 10 in the fourth.
"As soon as the third quarter was over, we said, 'Remember what happened last time,'" Boozer said. "We just didn't want that to happen again."
Boozer finished with 14 points and Mehmet Okur added 14 for the Jazz, who wore their green-and-yellow alternate uniforms. Korver, who missed 24 games following surgery on his left knee, looked sharp. He was 5-for-5 and tallied a season-high 12 points off the bench, as did Paul Millsap. Wesley Matthews added 10 points as Utah's reserves outscored the Dallas bench 45-25.
"They zoned us, and fortunately we made some shots," Utah head coach Jerry Sloan said. "You're never satisfied until the game is over because they've got the ability to beat you. They can make shots and make threes and they've got guys that get to the free-throw line. You've got to be able to make some shots yourself. Fortunately, we did."
Nowitzki was 11-for-11 at the line and scored a game-high 29 points, raising his career total to 19,984. Jason Kidd was 4-for-5 from behind the arc and registered 19 points and eight assists. Jason Terry added 16 and Erick Dampier pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Terry and Nowitzki were a combined 14-for-36 from the floor as Dallas had its two-game win streak snapped.
"We struggled shooting the ball," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said. "We just didn't get the job done, simple as that. When the shot-making isn't there, it's a bigger struggle. I'm pretty disappointed because we lost the first three quarters pretty decisively. We got it going in the fourth, but at that point it was just too late."
