Sumatra Earthquake Sends Tremors To West Coast Of Peninsular
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit northern Sumatra, Indonesia Saturday morning, sending tremors to the west coast of peninsular Malaysia.

However the earthquake, which occurred 40km south-west of Padang Sidempuan, Indonesia and 307km south-east of Klang, Malaysia, did not trigger any tsunami threat, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said.

Meanwhile, Federal Territory Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Azizan Ismail said the department received calls from the managements of high-rise buildings in the national capital informing of minor tremors.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue headquarters in Jalan Maharajalela also reported that tremors were felt in their premises.

The department was monitoring the situation, he said.
