SALT LAKE CITY(AP) The way the Utah Jazz were playing defense, they didn't need much of a lead to pull away and end Houston's four-game winning streak. The Jazz had a season-high 12 blocks, made six steals and forced 12 turnovers while winning their third straight, 99-86 over the Rockets on Tuesday night. "That shows how we were playing good help defense,'' said Utah's Ronnie Brewer, who scored 12 of his 17 points in the third quarter. "We really defended well tonight.'' With the win, Utah pulled within one-half game of Denver in the Northwest Division with just 12 regular season games left. The Jazz also kept the Rockets' stay on top of the Southwest brief, beating Houston two days after it moved into first place with a win at San Antonio. Deron Williams had 19 points and 12 assists for the Jazz, whose defense compensated for a poor night on the boards, getting outrebounded 52-42. "They were aggressive and aggressive teams usually win the game,'' Houston coach Rick Adelman said. "They don't usually block a lot of shots.'' Still, Utah coach Jerry Sloan wasn't about to proclaim this the best defensive performance he had seen from the Jazz. "I'm not totally going to buy all that. I thought it wasn't too bad,'' Sloan said. "They went in and missed some shots underneath the basket.'' Aaron Brooks scored 20 points and Yao Ming added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Rockets. The Jazz went 19-for-25 from the foul line and limited the Rockets to 12 of 14 free throws. The Rockets had taken over first place in the Southwest on Sunday night by beating the Spurs in San Antonio, but Houston's time on top was brief. The Spurs edged Golden State earlier Tuesday and Houston could not rally past the Jazz in the second half. "We were very impatient offensively and it cost us. I thought we forced the issue in the second half,'' Adelman said. Carlos Boozer had 13 points and eight rebounds and Mehmet Okur finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Paul Millsap spelled Boozer when he got in foul trouble and finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Brewer and Andrei Kirilenko added two blocks each. "We did a good job,'' Boozer said. "We tried to plug that paint up and make them take jump shots.'' |

老希尔26分太阳取六连胜 主场灭爵士保持一线生机
太阳在主场以118-114力取爵士，保持一线生机。
太阳(40-31)六连胜，落后第八的小牛3场，仍有微弱的希望。格兰特-希尔表现出色，拿下了26分，巴特-巴恩斯21分9个篮板，杰森-里察德森也得了21分，史蒂夫-纳什12分14次助攻，沙奎尔-奥尼尔12分12个篮板。
爵士(44-27)三连胜终止，德隆-威廉姆斯拿下了25分10次助攻，罗尼-布鲁尔17分，梅米特-奥库和凯尔-科沃尔各得15分。
太阳要为最后一线生机而战。开场后，他们大举进攻，把爵士的节奏也带了起来。里察德森首节4投4中，其中包括两记三分，单节得了10分。不过爵士的火力也不弱，太阳首节只以32-31领先。
太阳的攻势未能持续太久，第二节就开始找不到感觉，本节只得了20分，爵士在半场结束时以58-52超出。
第三节过半后，科沃尔三分命中，爵士以78-71领先，不过巴恩斯也为太阳投中三分，他们连得6分后将差距缩小，双方又陷入苦战，在三节过后，太阳以89-83超出，本节他们以37-25胜出。
比赛还有8分钟时，奥库三分命中，爵士以97-95反超。不过爵士此后的2分钟只投中一球，太阳打出一波8-2，在本节过半时，奥尼尔扣篮得手后，太阳又以103-99取得领先。
两队此后几度战成平手。在比赛还有31.5秒时，希尔后仰跳投命中，太阳以116-114再度超出。爵士暂停之后，威廉姆斯中投不中，奥库抢下了进攻篮板，但投篮也未能命中。希尔抢下这个关键的篮板，迫使对方犯规。
巴恩斯两罚两中后，太阳领先了4分。爵士此后仍投篮不中，失去了机会。 |

加时赛里关键的上篮，再加罚....够力...
为季后赛席位做最后一搏的太阳队作客能源解决中心挑战已经主场13连胜的爵士队。太阳在常规时间追回最多21分的劣势，但在加时赛中功亏一篑，以99-104负于爵士。这样，他们与西部第八小牛的差距被拉大到3.5个胜场，季后赛希望渺茫，如果太阳最终没能进入杀入八强，将是“鲨鱼”奥尼尔职业生涯二度无缘季后赛。 此役，纳什20分6助攻，奥尼尔16分10篮板，希尔得到19分；爵士方面，德隆-威廉姆斯21分13助攻，奥库得到全场最高的26分。
奥库开场连得4分，老将希尔上篮为太阳首开纪录。前半节，布泽尔和奥库接连拉到外线投篮得分，而太阳队则接连投篮不中，爵士一度以15-6领先。此后，太阳队逐渐找到手感，巴恩斯三分中的，而奥尼尔则连续抢到后场篮板后直接长传发动快速反击，太阳轰出9-2的攻击波。随后，两队互有攻守，爵士队以27-24暂时领先。

易边再战，太阳队的进攻仍然没有章法，只有希尔和奥尼尔这两位老将靠个人能力在苦苦支撑，而爵士队则越打越顺，凶悍的防守让太阳屡屡无功而返。太阳一度落后21分。本节后半段，趁爵士命中率下降，太阳送出7-0攻势，三节过后，爵士以69-58领先。
最后一节，杜德利连得7分率太阳打出轰出11-2的高潮，将分差缩小到2分。奥库和基里连科仅靠罚篮涨分，而希尔的上篮得手终于反超比分，78-77，爵士又连续两次失误，巴恩斯快攻扣篮得手，奥尼尔也连砍4分，太阳在最后2分钟以88-81领先！奥库投中三分，纳什随即跳投还以颜色，90-88，但是在比赛剩23.5秒时，整场比赛都发挥出色的希尔接球失误，德隆中投命中扳平比分!巴恩斯三分“打铁”，留给爵士1秒，德隆-威廉姆斯仓促投篮，未中，双方进入加时赛。
加时赛中，太阳率先得4分，而德隆的“打三分”和基里连科惊人的“打四分”先后成功，爵士反超5分，纳什投中3分，德隆错失跳投，但是希尔在最后一攻中近距离跳投未中，德隆两罚两中后，太阳败北。

SALT LAKE CITY(AP) Jerry Sloan was annoyed when the Utah Jazz blew a huge lead Saturday and had to come from behind to win a game they had all but clinched. When the Jazz did the same thing in a 112-104 win over the New York Knicks on Monday night, the Utah coach went from irked to concerned. Utah led by 24 early in the fourth quarter, but for the second game in a row watched a big lead slowly erode into a deficit. "We just kind of stood around and didn't execute our offense,'' Sloan said of the Jazz in the third quarter. "There's a difference between moving on it and just kind of flopping around.'' Deron Williams had 24 points and 13 assists and Carlos Boozer added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz, who are becoming consistent in some very bad ways. Utah led Phoenix by 21 on Saturday, then needed to rally to beat the Suns in overtime. "It's tough when you get up 20 against a team at home. You kind of relax a little bit and I think that's the case of the last two games,'' Williams said. "It's unfortunate that we couldn't get more rest like we wanted to and finished those games out early.'' Utah won its 15th straight home game and tied Portland for fifth in the Western Conference standings. The Jazz visit the Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, one of six straight road games Utah has against teams that appear headed to the playoffs. "We played really well at times and we played really poorly at times,'' said Utah's Kyle Korver, who had 16 points. "We can't have those lapses like we did.'' Al Harrington scored 24 to lead the Knicks before getting ejected with two technicals for arguing a foul call with 22 seconds left. The Knicks were down six before Harrington's tirade allowed Korver to put away the game with two free throws for the technical fouls. |

NEW ORLEANS(AP) Ronnie Brewer scored 23 points and the Utah Jazz completed a convincing season sweep of the New Orleans Hornets with a 108-94 victory on Sunday night. Deron Williams had 21 points and 11 assists for Utah, which led by 30 in the second quarter and snapped a three-game skid with its first road victory against a winning team in the Western Conference this season. David West had 23 points and 12 rebounds for New Orleans, which could have clinched a playoff spot with a victory, but instead lost its second straight game. Chris Paul had 19 points and 12 assists for the Hornets, who lost all three games against Utah this season by double-digit margins. Utah, currently seventh in the Western Conference, used a well-rounded effort to pull within a half-game of New Orleans for the sixth spot. Andrei Kirilenko, starting because C.J. Miles was out with a dislocated left index finger, scored 16 points. Carlos Boozer had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Mehmet Okur scored 18 points. For a team that had yet to beat a Western Conference playoff contender on the road this season, Utah came out brimming with confidence, perhaps seeking redemption for an unlikely loss at home to struggling Minnesota on Friday night. Utah outscored New Orleans 41-19 in the first quarter, marking the most points allowed by the Hornets in a quarter this season. Okur had 13 points during those first 12 minutes and Brewer had 12, each hitting an array of shots from inside and the perimeter. Williams, meanwhile, had eight assists and seven points in the period. The Jazz shot 76 percent (19-of-25) in the quarter. Utah also ignited its transition offense with good defense, forcing six early turnovers. Boozer twice stole the ball from West. Williams tied up Paul near halfcourt. Paul showed his frustration by complaining to officials, who called a technical foul on him. When Kirilenko sank a 3-pointer to close out scoring in the quarter, the home fans were booing, and the Hornets didn't do much to change that in the second period. Matt Harpring's free throws, followed by his short hook over Morris Peterson, capped an 8-0 run that put Utah ahead by 30 with 4:24 still remaining in the half. Soon after, Paul was called for his third foul and came out. Unable to respond with any sustained runs of their own, the Hornets trailed 66-39 at halftime. New Orleans made a bid to climb back into the game in the third quarter, outscoring Utah 37-21 during the period to pull to 87-76 heading into the fourth quarter. West had 10 points in the period, mostly on midrange jump shots, while Paul scored eight points and set up eight other scores, including an alley-oop to Rasual Butler, who finished with 21 points. Peja Stojakovic, playing as a reserve in his second game since returning from an ailing back, added a pair of 3-pointers. The crowd was back in the game, but Utah was determined to avoid another collapse on the road. Jumpers by Kyle Korver and Brewer helped the Jazz open the final period on a 7-2 run. Paul committed his fifth foul on a charge during that stretch and went to the bench, forcing the Hornets to try to chip away at a 16-point deficit without him. Instead, consecutive dunks by Brewer made it 100-82 before Paul checked back in with a little over six minutes to go, and New Orleans never got within single digits. Notes: Utah's 66 points in the first half also marked the most points allowed in a half by the Hornets. ... Utah also snapped a three-game road losing streak. ... The Jazz improved to 15-23 away from home.
