Green Mountain Coffee Investing $180M In Va.

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (AP) — Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. is bringing a   production and distribution center to southeastern Virginia, investing $180   million and creating as many as 800 jobs over the next five years, the company   and state officials announced Friday.   


The Waterbury, Vt., company will purchase for $15 million a   330,000-square-foot building on 64 acres to house coffee roasting, grinding,   flavoring and packing of Green Mountain's specialty coffee business unit.   


Gov. Bob McDonnell, who approved a $4 million grant to help Isle of Wight   County court Green Mountain, said the economic development is "transformational"   for the rural tidewater county along the James River.   


The region suffered a huge economic blow in 2009 when International Paper   closed its mill in Franklin, eliminating 1,100 jobs.   


"The region continues to rebound after experiencing devastating job losses,   and this project will put 800 Virginians back to work," McDonnell said in a   statement.   


Jon Wettstein, a Green Mountain vice president, credited Virginia's   "appealing business incentives" and labor force in selecting the Isle of Wight   location.   


Green Mountain operates production and distribution centers in California,   Massachusetts, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and Canada.

Stellar performance from this oil services company isn't really a surprise after the recent uptick in exploration and drilling activities. Flotek Industries' (NYSE: FTK  ) outstanding third-quarter numbers now make it imperative to drill a little deeper and see where it's heading to. Let's do it together.  

Great turnaround
Higher demand, improved product prices, higher drilling activity and rising oil and mineral prices were some factors pushed up Flotek's revenue by a staggering 87.7% from the year-ago quarter to $75.1 million.

Such favorable conditions are giving most industry players something to cheer about. Schlumberger's (NYSE: SLB  ) third-quarter revenue was up a solid 49% from a year ago to $10.23 billion backed by higher exploration activity and price momentum. All three segments of National Oilwell Varco (NYSE: NOV  ) also benefited from increased drilling activity during its third quarter, taking the company's revenue up by 24% from last year to $3.74 billion.

Record third-quarter revenue nicely turned around Flotek's net losses by a huge margin -- from losses of $2.4 million last year to a profit of $17.9 million in its third quarter.
