Market capitalization of this company stands at just $38 million. Considering the possibilities of its oil and gold properties coming on-stream, this stock could surprise on the upside. Since the company was able to provide a brief imagery of the oil prospects in its last quarterly results with increased revenues coming from oil operations, the stock isn’t likely to test the lows made in February.

All these stocks are high beta in nature so expect sharp movements in the prices. Nevertheless, these stocks appear to have limited downside for the reasons mentioned above. At the same time, the upside appears to be more favorable to take the risk.

RAM Energy Resources Inc (NASDAQ: RAM), Tri-Valley Corporation (AMEX: TIV) and Vantage Drilling Company (AMEX: VTG) were down in trade yesterday after the International Energy Agency announced to release 60 million barrels of oil over the next month. The move is certainly going to increase global oil supply and the crude corrected 5 per cent yesterday itself in anticipation of the future bringing oil stocks under pressure.

However, the situation has got a flipside too. While the International Energy Agency vowed to hike supply, OPEC has denounced the move stating that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers had already pledged to increase production to control the global crude prices. The OPEC believes the move could backfire and if one decides to read further in this warning, it becomes apparent that OPEC would do whatever it can to negate IEA’s move.

This means the drop in oil prices could be short lived and there may be production cuts from some OPEC members. RAM Energy Resources Inc (NASDAQ: RAM) looks favorably placed for such an up move. The stock is still reeling under pressure, down 5 per cent at $1.26, after yesterday’s softening in oil prices. However, this high beta stock can easily be the frontrunner on the way up. It is not a highly traded stock and thus, big price fluctuations are a common sight.

Vantage Drilling Company (AMEX: VTG) is the best way to play the increase in oil prices as it is currently working on a number of properties. Although the company operates in contract drilling, its fortunes are closely linked with global oil prices. The stock has a beta of 2.05 and currently trades at $1.82, up 4 per cent.

All these stocks are high beta in nature so expect sharp movements in the prices. Nevertheless, these stocks appear to have limited downside for the reasons mentioned above. At the same time, the upside appears to be more favorable to take the risk.

The work over rig was released on June 25th after all of the fracture isolation plugs were drilled out without incident. The maximum 24 hour measured oil rate during the drill-out operation was 1,439 BOPD.
The Rodney #1-14H well is located in Township 154N, Range 99W, Section 14 in Williams County, North Dakota.

HAWK SPRINGS PROJECT, WYOMING
DEFENDER US 33 #2-29H (37.5% WORKING INTEREST)

Operations commenced on the Defender well with the initiation of the construction of the well pad in preparation for the arrival of the Evergreen 42 drilling rig which is expected to arrive on location on July 16th with an anticipated spud of July 19th. The Defender well will be the first appraisal of the Niobrara B zone and will be fracture stimulated following the completion of a 4,500 foot horizontal.

The Defender US 33 #2-29H well is located in Township 25N, Range 63W, Section 29 in Goshen County, Wyoming.

SPIRIT OF AMERICA US 34 #1-29 (100% WORKING INTEREST)

Construction of the drill pad for the Spirit of America well is planned to follow the completion of the Defender well pad with an anticipated spud of September 19th following the completion of drilling operations on Defender. The Sprit of America will be a vertical test of two conventional targets in the Permian and Pennsylvanian sections.
The Spirit of America US 34 #1-29 well is located in Township 25N, Range 63W, Section 29 in Goshen County, Wyoming.
