OK，有时真的会漏掉。。
an是看下个字的发声是不是a, e, i, o, u。。
未必是看第一个字是不是a, e, i, o, u。。
例如：an honest man，an honor，a university。。
对吧？
还有什么例子？

另外为什么不是a book is made of papers？

对，英语是注重发音，而不是拼写的语言，一切以发音为主。

因为 paper（纸张）不可数啊，paper/papers（文件/考卷/报纸）才可以数

2： Can you help me to provide a solution for this problem?
3： Although this proposal is costly, but It is feasible.
4： I am sorry, can you repeat that again?
5： Can you close the air-con for me? It's too cold now.

你们看得出那里不对吗？

真有趣。。
我突发奇想，英文中有时会遇到一些字可能是源自拉丁文或其它欧洲语文。。
所以发音不照字面照读而已。。
例如：rendezvous，cliché，colonel，lingerie，chic等。。
（包括RIHANNA 哈哈哈）

如果能提出更多这种词，以后就能避免念错的尴尬。。
你还有什么这种词吗？

.... silhouette / chalet / bouquet / cuisine / debris / amateur / douche / déjà vu / dinghy / orangutan / rambutan / avatar ...等等等等，都是比较难念的字......

1. 完全正确，discuss the issue. 但是 let's have a discussion about the issue 就没错。
2. 对了一半，provide me. 另外一个比较严重的错误是solution for。应该是solution to the problem, 不是for the problem
4. 完全正确。
5. 也对了。

第3是大多数人最常犯的错误。我们平时讲得很顺口。
每当我们用although的时候，我们不接but。
Although this proposal is costly, it is feasible.
或者It is a feasible proposal, though is costly.

下次试试看注意外国人写的article,看看有用although的字句里，有没有but。 ；-)

有时去高级点的西餐厅点餐真的会不知所措！！

害我又想起一件经历（忘了是亲身经历还是别人的）......
话说在新加坡一间“高级点”的西餐厅里准备点一份牛排：steak /steɪk/ ......
结果侍应生听不懂什么是 /steɪk/，闹了片刻，他才领悟说：oh, stick, is it?! 露出“连 steak(在他的认知里该读成/stɪk/) 都不会讲”的不屑表情......

还有一次（这次真的是亲身体验），上了出租车：麻烦你送我去 xxx Pier /pɪə/。德士佬：xxx Pier
/pɪə/ 在哪里？...... 又闹了片刻，德士佬终于搞清楚地点了，（又是不屑或联邦人的英语就是这么烂的表情）哦，那是 xxx /paɪ ’ə/ 啦，不是/pɪə/ ......

所以共同的标准发音是多么的重要啊......

就“派尔”，他们大概是想，
flier 读成“非莱尔”，pier 很自然就应该读成“派尔”，纯粹是不认识英语（常有例外、“惊喜”）......
英语常让人引起辩论，甚至谩骂，应该就是类似的原因吧......

容易读错的字不一定都源自于拉丁文或法文。

其他容易读错的字还有：
Quay, liquor, gauge, chassis，yield

a 不发音的字：
Parliament

b不发音的字：
bomb，bomber，climb, climber, comb, debt, doubt, dumb, lamb, limb, numb, plumber, subtle, succumb, thumb.

这两个字不但b不发音，还要读成：
Tomb ---> toom
Womb ---> woom

c不发音的字：
Yacht, rescind, indictment.

容易读错的英国地方名：
Greenwich, Birmingham, Buckingham, Fulham, Reading, Leicester, Warwick, Plymouth, Salisbury, Oxford, Derby, Kirkby, Leigh, River Thames, 等等。

考一考你们：
我们都知道怎么读goal，那。。这个字怎么读？  Gaol
先不要搜寻谷歌，或字典。

还有字后面是st再加s的：interests, finalists ... ... ...

Leiceister我懂，因为当时读错伦敦的一条路名！

Hermes = air-mess

要讲designer brands真的大把。。。。

-age : manage, village, cabbage, message, cottage, garage...
vegetable, flour, coconut, crocodile, tomato, potato, banana, their, drawer,
con- : control, computer, confirm, consist, continue, combine...
等等，都是本地人常念错的字
由于环境因素，最好的解决方法还是先掌握音标。
