ON THE OCCASION OF 2,000 IVF BABIES CELEBRATION
AT TROPICANA MEDICAL CENTRE, KOTA DAMANSARA
PETALING JAYA, 11 JULY 2009

Managing Director of TMC Life Sciences Berhad,
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.

1.    I am pleased to be here to celebrate 2,000 IVF babies born through TMC Fertility Centre, formerly known as Damansara Fertility Centre, since 1994. Thank you for your kind invitation to thismomentous occasion.

2.    I understand that this is the largest number of IVF babies attributed to a single centre in Malaysia. The 2,000 babies born so far is a result of slightly over 4,000 IVF cycles done, demonstrating a very high pregnancy success rate achieved by TMC Fertility Centre. This is certainly an achievement that aptly demonstrates the spirit of excellence and “Malaysia Boleh”. Congratulations, TMC Fertility Centre,on your outstanding success.

3.    In the intricate framework of society, families form the backbone of the social fabric. Couples are deemed to have fulfilled their traditional obligations when babies come along to complete the family. From a larger perspective, the fertility rates in a country area vital barometer in preserving and upholding the unique cultures of its diverse people. Society’s ability to procreate and thereafter develop healthy families bode well for the continued growth and progress of the country.

4.    The consequences of infertility are far and widespread – the very life of the country is at stake. It is no wonder then, that governments around the world keep a keen eye on the fertility rate search year, and feel concerned when fertility rates decline significantly.

5.    UNICEF reports that Malaysia’s fertility rate was 2.6 babiesper couple in 2007 – a decline from 3.6 babies per couple in 1990. Compared with a replacement rate of 2.1, the country is beginning to face the risk of a shrinking population.

6.    Thus, the advent of advanced and effective fertility treatment is both timely and beneficial in enriching the lives of those couples who would otherwise have to endure life without offspring.

7.    I am pleased to note that Malaysia has the necessary expertise and state-of-the-art facilities to provide advanced fertility treat mentor Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). I understand that TMCFertility Centre has consistently maintained high pregnancy rates of 40-plus percent, and lately 50-plus percent, which are comparable to,if not better than, most top IVF centres in advanced countries.

8.    With these high pregnancy rates, TMC Fertility is indeed our own home-grown success – and a proud accomplishment for Malaysia. With such success stories right at our doorstep, I see no reason for couples to travel overseas for fertility treatment; IVF babies can now be wholly made in Malaysia!

9.    As a matter of fact, these success rates attract not only the local couples, but foreign health tourists as well. To this end, I understand that TMC Fertility Centre has conscientiously supported the efforts of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism to promote Malaysia’s excellent medical services through health expositions and trade missions to various countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and China since 2002. I am sure that these initiatives and endeavours have not gone to waste, given the fact that TMC Fertility Centre now attracts foreign tourists from more than 40 countries.

10.    To this end, I am also pleased to note that TMC Fertility Centre has expanded its presence nationwide, setting up branches in Johor Bahru, Kepong, Kuantan, Penang and Sibu, so that more people can have access to its comprehensive range of fertility treatment services. I note that TMC Fertility Centre is now headquartered in TropicanaMedical Centre, a centre that is certainly one of the most sophisticated and advanced IVF centres in South East Asia. I am told that this new IVF centre can conduct more than 2,000 IVF cycles per year; and the Ministry looks forward to celebrating the next milestone with TMC Fertility Centre.

Ladies and gentlemen,

11.    We believe that Research & Development is the cornerstone to ensure a company’s competitive edge, and to continuously develop innovative methodologies to better meet patients’ needs and provide better patient care. In this respect, I am pleased to learn that TMCFertility Centre is constantly undertaking R&D initiatives to improve its pregnancy rates. TMC Fertility Centre also regularly publishes and presents its R&D findings at various reputable, local and international medical congresses.

12.    I understand that over the years, TMC Fertility Centre has been responsible for introducing new innovations in fertility treatment to Malaysia. This includes, amongst others, successfully introducing Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) to Malaysia, a procedure which screens embryos for chromosome abnormalities. Apart from detecting chromosomally abnormal embryos, PGD can also be used to detect genetic defects. I am told that this year, TMC Fertility Centre has utilised the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) procedure in conjunction with PGD in a couple who both have thalassemia, to produce a twin pregnancy that is expected to result in babies without thalassemia.

13.    I would also like to congratulate TMC Fertility Centre for pioneering many treatment procedures in the field of fertility, including devising a mathematical model to guide doctors on the appropriate quantum of ovarian drilling; an embryo transfer technique, protocol and communication system; producing a healthy baby from a woman born without a vagina, and producing the world’s first recorded baby born following the salvage of a presumably abnormal embryo.

14.    In addition, TMC Fertility Centre has also just produced Malaysia’s first In-Vitro Maturation (IVM) babies, where immature eggs were retrieved and matured in the laboratory before fertilization. Backed by a string of firsts, TMC Fertility Centre has indeed placed Malaysia on the world map for achieving medical excellence in the field of fertility treatment. I believe that heartiest congratulations are in order.

Ladies and gentlemen,

15.    The Ministry of Health is whole heartedly committed to ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare services in Malaysia, so that Malaysians can have access to technologically advanced and innovative healthcare services at our doorstep. Our ultimate objective is to work hand in hand with the medical fraternity to enhance and raise the standards of healthcare in Malaysia, backed by best practices in the medical field. We will also do what we can to remove the misconception that Malaysia does not have such high-quality healthcare services,which has led many Malaysians to seek treatment overseas when such treatment are available right at our doorstep.

16.    In conclusion, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to once again thank TMC Fertility Centre for inviting me to witness this historic celebration. We at the Ministry of Health look forward to celebrating further accomplishments with you in the future.  Thank you.

我相信有可能。。因为成交量已走高。 。我有5000lot rm 平均价RM 0.41....=rm 20500.. 楼主应该不用要当太监
