No police report needed for lost passport, MyKad replacementGood news. If you've lost your passport or identity card (MyKad), you can now apply for a new one without having to make a police report. Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam said the rule change was in effect since March 1, The Star (a Malaysian newspaper) reported.
He said that it is possible for Malaysians to apply directly for a replacement passport or identity card if the item(s) were lost. The relevant agencies will note the loss in records and issue a replacement document - all in one day.
"A police report is only necessary if the loss was caused by an extraordinary circumstance, such as in a theft or robbery, where the person was victimised," he said, explaining that the move aimed to reduce costs and public inconvenience.
