Today Square Enix and Disney unveiled a new Kingdom Hearts III trailer that shines a spotlight on the first world in the Kingdom Hearts series to be based on a Disney•ixar film, “Toy Story.” Director of the Kingdom Hearts series, Tetsuya Nomura, premiered the trailer during The Walt Disney Company’s Video Game Showcase at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
The new trailer follows Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy to Andy’s room as they join Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Hamm, Rex and Sarge’s investigation into the disappearance of their fellow toys and Andy, and the emergence of the Heartless enemies in their world. Featuring an original storyline, fans will get a first look at the dynamic trio’s “Toy Story”-themed looks, all-new toys, such as the Gigas, and special Keyblades that transform and give Sora unique attacks to unleash on Heartless enemies.
“At long last, we are excited to open up the Kingdom Hearts universe to include the world of Disney•ixar's ‘Toy Story,’” said Tetsuya Nomura, Director of the Kingdom Hearts series. “I'm sure fans have been anticipating the inclusion of this world for many years. The narrative will be an original story exclusive to Kingdom Hearts III, and the gameplay will feel characteristic of the ‘Toy Story’ style and aesthetic. Thirteen screenshots of what is purported to be a development build of a Monsters, Inc. world in Kingdom Hearts III have surfaced on the Kingdom Hearts Insider forums.
Two of the 13 screenshots first surfaced earlier this month on the ResetEra forums.
Kingdom Hearts III is due out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.
Square Enix has released the D23 Expo Japan 2018 trailer and announced the official theme song for Kingdom Hearts III.
The D23 Expo Japan 2018 trailer confirms the rumored Monsters, Inc. world featuring Mike, Sully, and Boo, as well as the appearances of Vanitas and Marluxi. It also shows more glimpses of the Toy Story and Tangled worlds, with Sora and company fighting alongside Woody and Buzz, and Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, as well as what appears to be an Ariel summon.
The theme song for Kingdom Hearts III is called “Don’t Think Twice” in English and “Chikai” (Oath) in Japanese, and is sung by Hikaru Utada.
Finally, Square Enix said it will announce a release date for Kingdom Hearts III at E3 2018. It is currently due out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.

Kingdom Hearts III will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 25, 2019 in Japan and Asia, and January 29 in North America and Europe, Square Enix announced at the close of tonight’s Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour concert in Los Angeles. It was originally planned for release in 2018.
“I’m sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned,” Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura said in a tweet regarding the delayed release date. “Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3.”
A new trailer was shown to attendees of the concert, which features a scene with Zexion, Xigbar, and Lea; a scene of Hayner, Pence, and Olette running from a swarm of Heartless in Twilight Town; a scene of Kairi and Aqua sitting next to each other; and a scene of Sora cooking with Remy from the Pixar film Ratatouille.

Following a short trailer at last week’s PlayStation LineUp event, Square Enix has released the extended Tokyo Game Show 2018 trailer, new screenshots, and the official box art for Kingdom Hearts III.

Just ahead of the Tokyo Game Show event, Kingdom Hearts III fans were transported to the futuristic city of San Fransokyo, where the heroic cast of Big Hero 6 joins Sora and his friends in an epic battle against the darkness. Big Hero 6’s story of friendship continues on in Kingdom Hearts III, as the super crew of Hiro Hamada, Honey Lemon, Go Go Tomago, Wasabi No-Ginger, Fred, and their robot companion Baymax embark on a new adventure together with Sora, Donald and Goofy.
The world of Big Hero 6 is just one of the expansive worlds in the massive Kingdom Hearts universe. The trailer also shows off new footage from the Disney and Pixar worlds of Frozen, Monsters, Inc., Tangled, and Pirates of the Caribbean, while shedding new light on the Kingdom Hearts storyline as well as a first glimpse of a fan-favorite character.
Additionally, the trailer introduces a new way Sora will use his Gummiphone, which has the ability to take selfies with his new friends along his journey.
The official box art (pictured above), drawn by series director Testuya Nomura, features a variety of characters from the Kingdom Hearts series against an endless sunset, including Disney characters Mickey, Donald, and Goofy.
Kingdom Hearts III is due out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 29.
