Title: Luang Pu Suwang
Post by: mrwhite on May 18, 2008, 04:31:03 PM
[color=black !important]Very few things are known with certainty on the life of the Very Worthy LP Suwang. It ace indeed never desired to reveal its biography, and even its birth date is a total mystery.
The Worthy LP Suwang seems to be entered to Thailand (it was Cambodgien of origin) about 1920-1925 and to have been as of this period recognized Ajarn, it took the wishes then and left in Tudong retirement in the jungle lasting long years. A photograph going back to approximately 1930 shows it having already the aspect of a man of approximately 70 years.
Time with other the Very Worthy LP Suwang required has one of its disciple to bring it in the car in the close city and once on the spot it went on the place of the market and asked the passers by to write their wishes or the names of sick people on papers, then these papers were put in heap by ground and a Saï-Sin cord out of cotton was connected there and the given end has LP Suwang. The Very Worthy one recited a long prayer then and delivered itself has a méditatif exercise which caused the spontaneous combustion of the paper heap (at the end of sometimes 2 hours…). The properly incredible detail is that the cotton yarn prenai not fire and noircissai even not. Many people one seen their exaucés wishes and cure miraculous were also brought back following this strange ritual.
The Very Worthy LP Suwang is then establishes in the area of See-Saket in the village of Samlön Barn, but after some stories dûent with other monks jealous of his fame, it ends up returning the wishes and finished its days like laic, alive in a small hut which it had built with its hands with the assistance of some disciples. The Very Worthy LP Suwang died in 1995, being then old “officially” of more than 200 years…
A local legend said that LP Suwang had learned from a Cambodian wizard a secret technique of long life and that it will have been in fact old of more than 500 years at the time of his death. This technique apparently consisted in living 100 years, then has “to die” during 20 days before awaking to live 100 years again. A serious degenerative disease with put an end to the life cycle/died of the Very Worthy LP Suwang, it ace apparently not transmitted its secrecy has its disciples even if at least one of them says to have attended the last 20 days of “died” of LP Suwang and to have been the guard of its body during this period.
The amulets of the Very Worthy LP Suwang are known for their great effectiveness and the extreme care taken during their manufacture. For example it was normal for LP Suwang to bless each day during 9 years (!!!) a small series of 99 amulets. I am likely to know one of the disciples direct of LP Suwang which with desired good to yield the few amulets to me which are presented on the following page, I can thus certify them authentic.

Luang Phor Suang - An Angel on Earth

Amulets blessed by Luang Phor Suang are currently some of the most highly sought after pims on the Thai market. The following account explains the reason for such demand.

Essentially the sudden popularity has been driven by a monk who led a solitary and somewhat mysterious life, a monk with an illusive biography, known for his eccentricities but even better known for his amulets which are considered to be highly efficacious and often associated with accounts of extreme luck and fortune.

His amulets are also believed to be inherently powerful for invulnerability and protection (Kong Grapan.)  and in particular from malevolent forces and accidents. Countless testaments support this widely held belief, with many lives reportedly being spared whilst his amulets were being worn.

The most interesting aspect of his amulets is the duality of purpose and multiple blessings, ranging from Chok Laap, luck, wealth  and fortune to Sian Chok or extreme luck in all forms of gambling, depending on the time period of worship. Many of his amulets when reversed can be used as a channel to request guidance, support and help from the spirit of LP Suang

His first generation Khun Paen and Somdej pims have almost but disappeared from the open market and we would highly recommend acquiring at least one of these amulets if you can.

Luang Poo Suang - A monk with an unknown biography

It is a commonly held belief that this monk could possibly be several hundred years old. Although this claim is somewhat hard to believe, there are numerous people from the provinces of Surin and and Seasgate who are convinced of this and some of the evidence is hard to refute

Many locals of the older generation insist that they were just small children when they had first become acquainted with Luang Phor Suang. His appearance then was the same as it is today.

The strength of this belief was only intensified when a number of amulets were released clearly stamped with the wording “500 years old” Further to this he was popularly known as LP Suang Ha Roy Pi ( The 500 year old monk)

Villagers from Takianram, Seasaket Province and villagers from  Lumpug and Kokpon, Surin Province, all have claimed to have given alms to the sacred monk as youngsters.

To be honest, it is not known for sure where this monk originated, but it is generally thought Cambodia due to an accent of Khmer dialect.

Even Luang Phor Rith, Wat Chonpratan, who knew him had said that he would mysteriously appear and disappear, and that despite having known him for decades he never appeared to age. Once he had asked the age of Luang Phor Suang who replied that he was not Luang Phor Suang of legend. How one would interpret this response is open to debate, but clearly it was information that he either considered irrelevant or did not wish to impart.

Others have asked a similar question which resulted in a simple but silent response. LP Suang once delivered a dhamma lesson in which he had said that one should forget the past, as it could never be retrieved, but  concentrate on the future. This may in some way explain his own thoughts about the question of age and relevance to life.

It is not surprising that he was thought of as being special, in fact so special some have claimed that he may be a “Pra Upakut”, an immortal sacred monk.

Speculation and debate continues, even after his death. It was only in his later years that he became widely known throughout Thailand when invited to many provinces, so that people could pay respect.

He quickly became famed for his eccentric personality which often became associated with luck and fortune. A good example would be the occasion that he was invited to bless a recently opened business. Immediately after the ceremony he was witnessed by many present urinating against the front of the premises. Coincidentally the property address number matched the following weeks winning lottery combination.

His full name was Luang Poo Suang Oi Tiansul, the words Oi Tiansul loosely translated from the original Khmer language meant “to give and be happy” a name that he truly deserved as he had dedicated his life to this very purpose.

It was said that he had never refused to help anyone who had asked. Even from those he had never met. He did not discriminate in any way, his hand was extended to those that needed him, the rich, the poor, it made no difference. Luang Poo Suang had always told his followers that in life, giving was true happiness something that he continues top do until his dying breath.

His simple existence and unwavering dedication to helping others was sufficient proof to many that he had obtained the highest possible level of Lord Buddha’s Dharma, and as such was regarded as and an “Arahant”. or “Pra Arahantra”.

Those that had given alms to this great monk considered their lives eternally blessed.

One of his other nicknames given him by local villagers was Luk Au Poh, a Khmer word meaning ascetic, because he lived an existence that can only be described as mysterious, even to the extent that he lived his entire life alone in a small dwelling at the jungle edge.

Those that knew him had said that he would mysteriously disappear and reappear often for months on end, his exact whereabouts, totally unknown. Even those seriously devoted to this monk who had attempted to follow him would loose contact as he would disappear under the most inexplicable circumstances.

In fact it was so difficult to meet him that a unique signage was initiated to indicate his presence which took the form of a kite that he would hang above his doorway.

Often he was offered gifts by those that would visit, all thrown into a fire that burnt in front of his house, including any money. A clear message demonstrating that material possessions were of no importance in this life.

Living such an existence it should be of no surprise that his life and background were and still remain a total mystery.

It is this intrigue, along with the many accounts of amazing luck and fortune that have increased interest in his amulets.

Despite his simple existence in an area infected with deadly insects, disease, wild animals, he appeared to live without problems and by choice, gaining him yet another of his many nicknames,  ‘Tevada Dern Din”, or “Angel that walks the earth”.

Days Before Passing

An old proverb “Everything has an end”, unfortunately proved to a truthful reflection of life even for Luang Phor Suang.

On September 7th, BE.2543, LP Suang, through age and poor health returned home to the village of Takianram where he peacefully passed away despite numerous attempts to take him to hospital. LP Suang insisted that he had no desire to be treated by a physician.

Although he knew death was imminent he still wanted an opportunity to visit many local villages so that he could bid farewell. Although unable to walk he insisted that he be taken to Banbon village.

His followers literally carried the monk on a plank of wood, removed from the floor of a house, cut for the convenience of the monk. His followers obviously had an equal amount of reverence.

Whilst sitting on this simple plank of wood, he raised his hands in the gesture of a wai to the four directions, north, east, south and west

If any had wondered what the purpose was, it was a final goodbye to the sacred souls of the house, somewhere he knew he would never return.

His worsened state necessitated that he be immediately taken to a local hospital. Prior to this LP Suang had asked that his body be cleaned with a damp cloth, a Thai traditional ritual that is typically performed on a corpse.

On arrival at hospital he was proclaimed dead. The doctors present assessed the time of death at over 4 hours prior to arrival, despite the fact that the journey to the hospital was only 10 minutes. You can draw your own conclusions about this.

The corpse was eventually returned to the village and today it can still be viewed at at Ban Praipatana, where it was preserved.

Sacred Amulets

There are many popular amulets that feature an image of LP Suang,  many of which have been created by other monks who have wanted to pay personal respect.

Examples include; Rian Luang Poo Suang B.E.2544 created by Wat Ban Praipatana, those created by Luang Poo Jium of Wat Krabor, and those created by Suan Buddha Dharm Baitukjia, Pathum Thani Province. All thought to help increase fortune, and extremely popular with business people.
