Jonas Brothers, Gossip Girl win big at the Teen Choice Awards
Pop sensations the Jonas Brothers and frisky TV show Gossip Girl were the big winners, while Canadian actress Ellen Page took home two awards at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards with both netting six awards/surfboards at the ceremony on Sunday.
The hirsute Disney stars bagged awards for Choice Breakout Group, the coveted Choice Male Hottie and Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon Male honours. The squeaky clean sibs' music also won them some hardware as single "When You Look Me in the Eyes" earned Choice Music Single and Choice Music Love Song, while "Burnin' Up" won the Choice Summer Song award.
Despite coming up short in the ratings, CW drama Gossip Girl managed to rack up six Teen Choice wins out of its 14 nominations, including two for actress Blake Lively as well as the Choice TV Show Drama award. Lively, who plays spoiled rich kid Serena van der Woodsen on the steamy show, took home surfboards for Choice TV Breakout Star Female and Choice TV Actress Drama. Her male counterparts didn't do so bad either as Chace Crawford won Choice TV Breakout Star Male and Ed Westwick-who plays Chuck Bass on the show-won the Choice TV Villain nod.
Canadian sweetheart Ellen Page took home more hardware for teen pregnancy comedy Juno, as the Halifax, Nova Scotia native won the Choice Movie Breakout Female trophy as well as Choice Movie Actress Comedy.
In film, Will Smith seemed to be popular with kids, as the mega-star won the Choice Movie Actor Horror/Thriller award for his role in the post-apocalyptic I am Legend, while I am Legend won for Choice Movie Horror/Thriller and his other flick Hancock snagged the Choice Summer Movie Action Adventure surfboard.
Other winners included Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian for Choice Movie Action Adventure and dance flick Step Up 2: The Streets for Choice Movie Drama. The Katherine Heigl-powered 27 Dresses snagged the Choice Movie Chick Flick, while the Ashton Kutcher-Cameron Diaz comedy What Happens in Vegas won the Choice Movie Romantic Comedy. Juno won for Choice Movie Comedy and the big screen adaptation of Get Smart won the Choice Summer Movie Comedy award.
Outside of Gossip Girl, TV award winners included Steve Carell, who scored the Choice TV Actor Comedy nod for his role as Michael Scott on NBC's The Office. Superhero serial drama Heroes won for Choice TV Show Action Adventure, while main heroine Hayden Panettiere nabbed the Choice TV Actress Action Adventure surfboard. In the world of reality TV, MTV's The Hills grabbed two trophies, one for Choice TV Celebrity Reality and the other for Lauren Conrad who won the Choice TV Female Reality/Variety Star.
R'n'B singer Chris Brown won four awards, including Choice Music Male Artist and Choice Music R'n'B Artist. Meanwhile the show's host, teen phenomenon Miley Cyrus took home the Choice Music Female Artist and Choice TV Actress Comedy accolades, while her show, Hannah Montana won the Choice TV Show Comedy.
