1)She forgot to tell me our plans. (She did not tell me, though she should have.)
2)She forgot telling me our plans. (She told me, but then forgot having done so.)
3)i saw you stealing my money
how about these two sentence?"telling" in this sentence is a continuous tense not only is a gerund?u
for question 3),"stealing" oso a continuous tense.the whole sentense is described that i was seeing the situation.
i think these 3 sentence r the same with the sentence "Inter face......,winning...",then y "winning" in this sentence is not a continuous tense but a noun?could u explain to me if u r understood?tq...... |

1)She forgot telling me our plans.
2)i saw you stealing my money
can we say that "telling" and "stealing" are continous tense and oso gerung boz of "forgot" and "saw" are main verb respectively.
means that:
stealing = gerung
(herein,we use "stealing" as a continuous tense,so the sentence is " i saw you when u were stealing my money".)
i saw you stealing my money.
for another meaning,
(we set "stealing my money" as a noun since "saw" is main verb and "stealing" here we did not treat it as continuous tense as above,so the sentence is "i saw you,you stole my money").
i saw you stealing my money.
am i right?can we say that?is it depend on how we use and what is the situation? |

3)i saw you stealing my money
...
rule 1: sb can take verb
rule 2: obj cannot take verb
She forgot to tell me our plans . ( she is obliged to tell you as she probably has promised)
She forgot telling me our plan. (not necessary to tell you)
I saw you . You were stealing my money.
When combining,it becomes "I saw you stealing my money".
I is a sb,so can take verb "saw".But you is an obj,it cannot take verb.It can either take present participle(shows past continuos) or bare infinitive(show past simple).
I saw you steal(bare infinitive) my money.
meaning when i saw him,he had already stolen the money.
The actual sentences are "I saw him.He stole the money."
I saw you.You were stealing my money.
I saw you stealing my money.

Telling here is definitely a gerund whereas stealing is a present participle.
She forgot me(n).
She forgot telling(n).
I'm looking forward to the party (n).
I'm looking forward to receiving(n) your letter.
I will start the music(n) soon.

Inter face a team that have reached two of the last three finals, winning the title in 2005 before losing to AC Milan last may.
how about this?izit same with what u told?
sb verb obj continous tense o bare infinitive
Inter face a team that have reached two of the last three finals, winning the title in 2005 before losing to AC Milan last may.
can we treat "winning" is a continous tense and not a noun?
can we say like this?actually i really confuse that wen we treat it as continuous tense and wen we treat it as a noun?
for example:i saw your stealing my money.
frm this example,it surely tell that "i saw you, you were stealing my money" boz "stealing" is a continous tense.
but for another way out, "i saw your stealing my money",can we treat "stealing my money" as a noun n not continuous tense?
o u have any example bring out? |

PART 1
Subject Object
He Him
She Her
It It
You You
We Us
They Them
I give her my money.
Give is a verb.
Subject must appear before a verb and object must appear only after a verb.
Subject takes verb and object does not take verb.
E.G,I convince him to put aside everything.
He told me not to be so stubborn.
He she it and so on are all pronouns.
Prefix pro means for.
Pronoun means for the noun-uncle tan, jason khoo, felicia ooi and so on.
RULE
1)OBJECT CANNOT TAKE VERB.
2)SUBJECT TAKES VERB.
PART 2
Infinitive
He comes here to study.
He came here to study.
He has come here to study.
He is coming here to study.
The red indicate verb.
The blue indicate infinitive.
Verb has got tense.Tense means time.
Verb expresses time.
However, infinitive is not influenced by time.
In any tenses,it is applicable,it has got no tense.
Therefore, infinitive must be a base form.
Infinitive= to + base form.
The only thing to do now is to pick up the vase and to tell mother about it.
In this sentence, there is one verb with three infinitives.
However,it can be simplified to
(to) (to)
The only thing to do now is ^pick up the vase and ^tell mother about it.(Correct)
Are pick and tell infinitive?
Yes they are,but they are infinitive without to,it is called bare infinitive.
In bare infinitive, the (to) is understood, therefore no need to put.

PART 3
I saw the man.He crossed the road.(both sentences are simple past.)
(it means when u saw the man,he had already crossed the road.)
When we combine
(to)
I saw the man ^cross the road.
RULE
1)SUBJECT TAKES VERB.
2)OBJECT CANNOT TAKE VERB
According to the 2nd rule, object cannot take verb.
I saw the man cross the road.
The man is an object.
However, the "cross" is not a verb,it is a bare infinitive.
The to can be removed as it is understood.
PART 4
I saw the man.He was crossing the road.(the 2nd sentence is past continuous.)
(it means when u saw the man,he was crossing the road.)
When we combine,
I saw the man crossing the road.
Are you confused with the crossing?
Is it a present participle or gerund?
(was)
I saw the man ^crossing the road.
See the logic?
As object cannot take verb, putting (was) in front present participle is wrong already.
Therefore, when (was) is understood, you must remove it.
Crossing here acts as a present participle, not gerund.
RULE
1)OBJECT CANNOT TAKE VERB.
2)OBJECT CAN ONLY TAKE BARE INFINITIVE TO SHOW PAST SIMPLE.
3)OBJECT CAN ONLY TAKE PRESENT PARTICIPLE TO SHOW PAST CONTINUOUS.
PART 5
What is the difference between gerund and present participle.
Although they are verb+ing, they are not the same.
Gerund is a noun formed from a verb,it is also called verbal noun.
Present participle is not a noun,it is usually used with is/am/are to show present continuous,was/were to show past continuous and also adjective.
GERUND
(n)
I love cakes.
I love pizza.
I love the girl.
Therefore,(Verb + ing here is used as gerund.)
(n)
I love swimming.
I love cooking.
I love arguing.
PRESENT PARTICIPLE
I am cooking .
He is dancing in the room.
She is reading novel.
They are grumbling.
Verb + ing here is present participle.
Present continuous=is/am/are + present participle
In addition, present participle can also be used adjective.
The frying pan.(when you used the pan,you is frying.)
The chopping board.(when you use the board, you are chopping.)
The dazzling perfomance.(when you see the perfomance,it is dazzling.)
The boiling water.(When you see the water,it is boiling.)
The crying girl.(when you see the girl, she is crying.)
Past participle can be used as an adjective too.
The broken glasses.(When you see the glasses, they are broken.)
The depressed guy.(When you see the guy,he is depressed.
The devastated town.(When you go to the town,it is devastated.)
So now you know when verb+ing takes as a gerund or present participle?

i am understood...but i still have some questions.
"i forgot to tell you our plans"
can it be "i forgot tell you our plans",we take out "to"?
or must be "i forgot telling you our plans"? y?
is it boz of it can not has two verbs in one sentence,so "tell" have to +ing, becoming gerund(noun),not present participle?am i right?
As object cannot take verb, putting was in front present participle is wrong already.
so for the sentence your put,"putting" here is a gerund.am i right?
frm this sentence,object = sbj,cannot take = verb and verb = obj,right? |
