if you use 'dissapointing', you're telling ppl / describing yourself that you're dissapointing (making others to feel dissapointed)..
it's the same as 'i'm bored'..
many ppl say 'i'm boring' <-- that means they're making others feeling bored..cos they're dull or somethin glike that.. |

觉得你的表现手法有欠成熟，多读一点英文报章，来加强你的文法。你要表达的东西人家都看得明白，但有一些dangling的句子。开头第一句，
I saw a fatal accident yesterday, I deeply feel life is fragile.
[我昨天目睹了一宗致命车祸，我深深的觉得生命的脆弱。] 是不是觉得应该加一两个连接词来使这句子的Idea更通顺？
或许你是惜字如金的，尝试形容以下为什么拿车祸令你产生对生命的感慨？
列：I saw/witnessed a fatal traffic accident yesterday which involved a lorry and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was knocked down and run over by the lorry, and died instantly. Fatal accidents seem to be daily occurences on the roads nowadays. Lives just cease to exist on that instant, which get me thinking that life is fragile....
这样会不会更好？ 发展自己的point,加强它。其他的段落不讲了，在写写看。

Put country’s interest first, says PM
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians should move forward and put the country’s interest before any “narrowly defined demands”, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
In his Christmas message to all, he said the peace that has prevailed in the country over most of the past 50 years of independence was due to sheer hard work from the people and a strong sense of responsibility among Malaysians.
“Over the last few months, narrow-mindedness and intolerance, propounded by a small group, have served to test our faith in each other.
“Therefore, in celebrating Christmas today, I am happy to note that Malaysians of all faiths continue the tradition of sharing and caring – a tradition that we have practised all these years,” he said.
Abdullah said Malaysians have seen over the years how love and compassion helped them break down racial barriers.
Love and compassion, he said, also helped Malaysians understand the adversity faced by the less fortunate and the marginalised.
“Despite all the rhetoric, the great religions of the world practised across Malaysia share many universal beliefs.
“None is more evident than our central belief in the power of love and compassion,” he said, adding that Malaysians must believe that the country was truly greater than the sum of her parts.
The Prime Minister urged all Malaysians to lend a helping hand to those who have to spend the festive season in great hardship.
“In this spirit and as we celebrate Christmas with all who are important to us, our thoughts also go out to the unfortunate and all who face hardship at this time – such as the flood victims in our country.
“Lastly, let me take this opportunity to wish my fellow Malaysians of the Christian faith a very happy Christmas,” he said.
Abdullah will be the guest of honour at the Christmas high-tea reception here today hosted by KL Archbishop Datuk Murphy Pakiam. The prime minister will be accompanied by his wife, Datin Paduka Seri Jeanne Abdullah.
Heads of churches, Cabinet members, leaders of other religious groups and foreign dignitaries are expected to be at the event.

1)None is more evident than.... 没有比（这个/这样）更明显地。。。
2）That our country is greater than sum of her parts....
sum- 总数。。。e.g. sum of 10 and 10 is 20.
-第一，用“was"是错的，因为大马还存在。
- something is greater than some of its parts- 这是个英文常用语。比喻当几个部分加起来时，所产生的共鸣力，不单只是加起来的总数而已，使更大数的。首相想表达的是一个国家因不同的部分加起来，就会使这国家更伟大，更强大的。不是1+1=2， 而是 1+1=3或更大。也是要表达团结的重要性。
-还有一个顺便讲一下，以前形容一个国家的时候，会用雌性来形容，比如my motherland, she is a beautiful country. 在文章上也有 ...sum of her parts。。现今语文趋势，很少看到这样用了。都是用 it/its 来形容，比较政治正确。
3）Jump bail- 弃保而逃。 通常法庭会给犯人一个保释金 （post bail)，给他人身自由，直到正式被带上法庭审讯。Jump bail 的话，保释金会被充公，也会同时发通缉令。看案件的严重性。

这句话是连着上一句来讲的。
“Despite all the rhetoric, the great religions of the world practised across Malaysia share many universal beliefs.- 即便各种不同华丽的说辞，各个在大马遵奉的伟大的宗教都有共同的信念。
“None is more evident than our central belief in the power of love and compassion,”
- 再也没有比共信博爱和慈悲的力量更加明显的了。
The Star确实不是很好的学习英文的媒体，很简单的语法都会犯的，NST会好一些。
-不能说用her是错的。比较old-fashioned. 语文也有潮流的，知否？
-had helped them to....比较妥当。在谈过往的事，had.
- Jump bail? 我不是解释很清楚了吗？ 弃保而逃，在担保期过后还没在法院出现。可能逃出国了。

所以rioj认为如果要学英文的话看NST会比较好一点？
无可否认的有时候我看The Star的新闻的确能发现语法错误
但它的Star Two做的很不错
可能NST新闻的英文的确不错
但它的Life & Times好像没人把关
有一次我看到一个由摄影师写的文章
开头的第一句就有错误
接下来都不懂要怎么看
The Star是MCA的
所以能看到很多华人的新闻
好像Lifelong Learning Campaign
你们有没有注意到Star Two里有个叫Seto Kit Yan的记者
他专门写华人明星的文章
而NST是UMNO的
所以你能知道里面有什么文章
你们有没有觉得The Star的Opinion版好像没有人改语法的
因为我看到很多充满错误的文章在那里出现
值得一提的是NST的Opinion版里由编辑写的文章
英文真的超级好
所以我每天都上网看
以前有Khairy写的文章
但现在没有了
除了The Star和NST
还有The Malay Mail和The Sun
这两份报纸都不用看
有时候看爽就好
The Malay Mail也是NSTP集团的
它的英文只有小学程度
The Sun也是 |
