We (Smart Filter Sdn. Bhd.) don't have a factory in East Malaysia, we have only one in Penang. "Aqua Star" is manufactured in Penang by my friend "Osmonics", the KK dealer is at Penampang baru.
"Aqua Star" is one of the best looking machine in Malaysia.

Please contact Smart office to get a service DVD. Most people after watching it will become an expert in water vending machine.
If you still worry, Smart also conducts trainning courses. There are a lot of female operators, the oldest one is 62 years old, if they can service their own machine, why not you?

Let me share with you my experience in preventing vandalism. When I started the business in 2006, I designed my first machine called "Jusco" which the safety features were truly "world class":-
1. The casing was made of 2/8" thick steel. I thought fiber glass no good, steel was better because the thief will have difficult time to ply it open.
2. It got a "James Bond" lock, the key is like a needle and you insert it into a hole to open.
3. Alarm system. If the door is opened the alarm is triggered. The sound is so strong that you can hear from a far distant.
4. Safety box. The coins drop into it and you need to punch in 4 digit code to open it.

Does it sound hi-tech and bullet proof?

Here were what happened to the machines:-
1. The casing was made of steel, so the thief used a hook and a cable and tie to lorry or a car tried to pull the door open. The whole door fell down.
2. The thief could not open the lock so they used a screw driver and a hammer to "bam-bam-bam" tried to break it. The lock was so strong that they could not break but manage to destroy it, so we also cannot open.
3. I imagined that when the alarm sound the thief would get scare and run away. In fact they got panic and smashed every electrical items inside, resulting in a total loss.
4. They could not open the safety box, even though we bought it from Giant it was nevertheless a strong one. So they used hammer to "bam-bam-bam" and destory the key pads, at the end we also cannot open and had to used the "oxy-fire" (people used for welding one) to cut the thing open.
Scary? After all those experiences I asked myself, "why they want to destory my machine and steal the RM 50 inside the machine?"
Why??????
Because they thought there was RM 500 inside to machine, hei, if you see a machine lock here lock there you will definitely thing that it must got a lot of money inside. And I imagine that if the lock can be opened easily so the thief would not "bam-bam-bam" and destroy my machine.
So now all my machines only got RM 8 pad lock (cheaper the better), and if my machine ever got break in I will negotiate with the shop, "boss, aiya saya punya mesin kena curi duit loh, saya mahu pindah balik rumah lah...."
the boss will say, "aiya sayanglah macam itu, apa cakap saya kutip untuk kamu tiap-tiap malam sebab saya pun mahu guna syling lah...."
I will definitely say, "ok lah, nah, tiap-tiap malam you kutip duit, saya punya kunci you pegang, dan tiap-tiap minggu saya mari cari you ambil duit ini lah, boss, saya kasi you 20% mah, so masa saya mari ambil duit dengan kau kita ikut coin meter ini ah..."
Since I adopted the method "boss you tolong kutip duit" I had successfuly reduce the lost due to break ins. The statistics is a proof: my 200 machines only got RM 187 stolen in August 2010.
Actually now water vending machine break in cases are a lot less compared to 2006, maybe "Mat Rampit" now prefer to snatch hand bags rather then steal coins. And maybe by snatching hand bags they got cash, credit cards, hand phone, and jewelry.
But please be aware that not all shops you can "boss you tolong kutip", the reason is quite sensitive to discuss here, I will tell you when we meet someday. Cheers.

Dear Archer,

You know I am new in forum or blog, I always see people say "pm,pm", what is that ah? Don't laugh at uncle, please.
By the way, I have only about 10 machines in SP area, and if you like to see the machines I can "pm" the location(s) to you. (what button do I click to "pm"? actually I tried to attach some photos to show everyone, but "find come find go" cannot get it done, can teach me or not?)
Yesterday I went to Alor Star to look see look see, the market there is super-duper good. This is why:-
1. All the "A" grade location have got only old, rusty, 8 years old machines (from a formerly listed company), and almost every machines' shop owner I talked to comment that a lot of people bought from the machines. ("A" grade means can achieve >RM 1k per month)
2. A lot more grade "A" locations nobody install machine.
3. Most other brands machine owners don't know to look for good locations; they simply install.
4. I notice only 1 good competitor there (someone who know how to do the business), but obviously financially not strong enough.
So if you or any friend who can venture into Alor Star, you can make good money there.

我也是这样的方式在做，水机的投资不大会本比较稳定，当您的水机数量越来越大的时候您就可以看到您要的收入，（没有请人的烦恼，没有SALE的压力，没有库存的压力等等）
水机是一门很好的被动收入制造机器。
我的计划就是，简单的动作重复的做，快速的做，当我有20或更多台水机的时候，我就可以拿来投资其他的生意或房地产。

首先您到街上的水机，拿一个1.5L 的水瓶，放20仙进去，按一按电钮，那太水机就会把水放进您的瓶子，您拿来喝一喝感觉一下他的味道。好不好喝。然后等一等看一看数一数有多少人会去买水。您就可以知道市场。然后看一看您家附近的住户什么人比较多，家庭，学生还是单身贵族。

然后算一算您的资本有多少，可以承受的风险有多少，然后到您要的厂家看一看他的公司，问一问他们的意见。那您的问题就会得到答案。

还有，之前的贴我有看到水机的电费一个月只需RM5。这是真的吗？

Dear Trendy,

You must think that I am "soon woo kung" and know "chit se er pian" to collect coins from all the machines, actually I employ people to do it lah. For those high risk area the shop owners will collect the coins every night and we will collect from them every now and then.
You may wonder whether it is safe to ask people to collect the coins, what if they run away? This is how I do it:
1. Use the right people
2. Create a system for them
3. Read the report everyweek
The machines come with 2 meters which can record the collections, if you know how to run the business no one can cheat you.
For a start I think a new comer should learn how to deal with shop owner and not worry about who collect the coins , a lot of people fail because of this, let me quote you some examples:
1. In 2007 I saw a grade "A" location in Penang, it was a big mini market surrounded by a lot of low cost houses, but there was one machine installed at the mini market and got no power supply. So I went into the shop and ask, the shop owner said, "itu orang banyak teruk punya, tiap-tiap bulan rental tak mau bayar sama saya, so saya off dia punya current loh." So then I counter proposed, "nah, saya bayar you RM 100 sebagai deposit, biar saya taruh saya punya mesin."
There are a lot of bad pay masters, don't be one of them. By the way, that Smart machine collects more than RM 1k per month until now.
2. In 2009 I saw a Smart machine in KK, Sabah, also at a good location and got no power supply. The reason, "itu orang banyak tak gentlemen, dulu dia cakap masa collection bagus mahu bagi saya 50%, sekarang collection bagus mah, tiap-tiap bulan ada RM 700 dan dia cakap tak banyak, so saya off dia punya current loh."
So next time you install machine never propose to the shop, "nanti sales bagus saya kasih you banyak sikit"
Always stick to the lowest possible and learn how to complain, "boss, ini bulan walau pun sales RM 700 tapi saya tukar filter RM 300, tukar pump RM 500, tukar bla-bla-bla...."
There were 2 more extraordinary funny incidents:
3. June 2010, I went location hunting in Sri Kembangan and saw an old Smart machine sitting in front of a mini market, again, got no power supply. The shop owner said, "ini mesin dia pasang sejak 2008, dia janji mahu kasih saya 20%, tetapi tiap-tiap kali dia cakap duit kena curi, dan satu malam saya punya adik nampak dia datang kutip duit pukul 2 malam, so kita tangkap dia loh, sekarang dia pun tak berani mari angkat mesin itu, sudah 3 tahun loh."
4. Last week I went Alor Star and saw 2 identical machines sitting inside a flat building with no power supply, the machine cost RM 16k a piece, so 2 units are RM 32k. The machines connected the electricity and water to a house, one of the house owner told me, "ini mesin sudah stop 7 bulan loh, dulu dia janji mahu bayar saya RM 130 sebulan, tapi dia 1 tahun baru bayar sekali(RM130), saya punya anak jumpa dia mari kutip duit tengah malam, so saya marah pun potong dia punya current loh"

Funny? It may seem impossible that some one will just abandon their machines like that because cannot handle shop owners. So there are 2 ways to look at this scenario:
#1 This business cannot do one, see lah so many abandoned machines.
#2 A lot of people in this industry don't know how to do business one: they don't even know how to handle shop owners, so the competition not big lah.
