Mehdi Benatia appears to be nearing a move to the Premier League after the defender missed training with Roma on Monday.
The Morocco international has been linked with a move away from Italy in recent weeks, with Manchester United, Chelsea and German giants Bayern Munich all thought to be interested in the 27-year-old’s services.
Specualtion over his future with Roma then increased after Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri revealed that the defender missed training on Monday.
‘Benatia didn’t train with Roma today,’ he said on Twitter.
Roma confirmed that the 27-year-old had ‘worked out in the gym and had physiotherapy’ alongside three other players on Monday, but reports suggest the defender was not injured – strengthening suggestions that the Italians are trying to wrap Benatia in cotton wool to prevent him from sustaining an injury that could scupper a potential transfer. |
