Liverpool select £64 million transfer targets
As Liverpool look set to miss out on the league title this season,Caughtoffside.com reports that the club will have a £64 million transfer kitty in the summer for four key additions to the club. Liverpool have been phenomenal this season and although they still have chance to win the title, their draw with Crystal Palace last Monday may have marked the end of their campaign this season but Brendan Rodgers and the club’s American owners are looking ahead and preparing to strengthen for a title assault next season. Defensive steel Liverpool’s main weakness this season has been their defence, conceding the second most in the top 8 in the Premier League meaning the Brendan Rodgers has targeted Swansea captain Ashley Williams and former Reds defender Javier Mascherano to add some steel to the club’s defence. Mascherano, 29, left the club in 2010 in a £19 million move to Spanish side Barcelona but looks certain to leave the side in the summer as the club plans a major squad overhaul now their embargo has been lifted. Rodgers is prepared to bid up to £16 million for the Argentinian who previously made 139 appearances for Liverpool in order to provide cover at central defence as well as supporting Lucas Leiva with defensive midfield duties. Meanwhile Rodgers is also set to make an £8 million offer for the Swansea captain. Although Williams is 29 and therefore does not fit in with Rodgers youth orientated transfer policy, the Liverpool boss believes that the defender he knew from his time at the Liberty is the perfect man to lead his new-look defence for next season. Attacking flair Although Liverpool play free-flowing, attractive football and boast one of the most attacking front lines combining Raheem Sterling, Phillipe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, Brendan Rodgers is also targeting Torino playmaker Alessio Cerci and Southampton wide-man Adam Lallana. Cerci has netted 13 times this season for surprise package Torino, as well as contributing 9 assists and Liverpool boss Rodgers is incredibly interested in signing the Torino playmaker, with the former Swansea boss preparing to meet the club’s £18 million valuation for the stylish winger, with Liverpool keen to begin talks before the World Cup. Moreover, Rodgers is determined to bring Southampton star Adam Lallana to Anfield next season, with the Northern Irishman seeing the Englishman as the future replacement for Liverpool and England stalwart Steven Gerrard. Lallana will probably leave the Saints in the summer and is probably more likely to join the Anfield club ahead of Chelsea, where he could link up with Gerrard and get far more playing time.
