收購成本高每公斤乳膠價格衝破7令吉，詢及是否儘快收購橡膠園時，林偉才說：“膠價太貴，使收購成本高昂，我們將繼續觀察市場，待價格回檔后再展開收購。” 頂級手套在泰國擁有2座濃縮乳膠生產廠房，確保原料供應穩定。 他指出，儘管08財年第3季利息、稅務、折舊與攤銷前盈利（EBITDA）和淨利賺幅，按年下滑至13%及7.3%，但公司有信心全年可回揚至14%及8到9%。 他說，第3季匯差擴大及乳膠價格大漲，頂級手套未及時轉嫁，繼而拉低賺幅。

(吉隆坡9日訊)儘管目前營運環境艱鉅，頂級手套(TOPGLOV，7113，主板工業股)有信心可安然度過難關，惟它預計，本地手套領域將會出現整合趨勢。

該公司董事主席丹斯里林偉才博士表示，目前原料起價對他們來說是一個大挑戰，同時也是一個機會。

他認為，在目前的環境下，有些比較弱的公司因為生產費用增加，或會被逼結束營業或脫售公司，但是比較強大的公司，如頂級手套，就可以趁機收購這些公司，並加強他們在市場的佔有率。

「到目前為止，我可以看到這個行業會隨著小型業者被淘汰，而會有更進一步的整合行動。」

當被詢及會否對其他公司進行收購時，林偉才表示，目前有幾家公司正向頂級手套提出被收購獻議，其中包括來自大馬、泰國及印尼的公司。但是，他對于收購其他公司，還是保持小心翼翼的態度，因為他認為，要維持一間公司的盈利，是一件不容易的事。

「相較于收購其他公司，我們比較想自己建立新的工廠，因為新的工廠有著新的機器，對于我們的生產會有比較大的好處。」

他也透露，該公司計劃在他們于巴生所擁有的2片土地上，建立2座擁有16條生產線的新工廠，並會以生物質做為燃料。

此外，有關計劃收購橡膠園一事，林偉才說，目前該公司的這項計劃還是處于觀察階段，因為目前的樹膠價格偏高，如果在價格較高時進行投資，所得到的報酬就會比較低。

「目前，我們正等待合適的時機，那就是等到樹膠價格下滑時，才會進行投資。」

林偉才今日是在頂級手套的業績和業務媒體匯報會上，向媒體如此表示。

他指出，目前的天然氣價格為12.80令吉，如果天然氣的價格在未來的漲幅達到160%的時候，該公司將會考慮以生物質，來取代天然氣作為生產燃料。同時，該公司希望政府不要一次過大幅調升天然氣價格，而是逐步調漲。

Glovemakers call for steady gas price rise

Top Glove says rubber glovemakers accept that natural gas price has to go up, but are appealing for staggered price hikes to give them sufficient leadtime

RUBBER glovemakers want the government to raise the price of natural gas, their main fuel source, gradually so that they can cope with the increase.

"The price increase announced last month was too high and too sudden. It will have a negative impact on our business," said Top Glove Corp Bhd chairman Tan Sri Lim Wee-Chai.

The government had wanted to raise natural gas prices by almost double for small industrial users like rubber glovemakers, on July 1. However, this was delayed to a new date yet to be announced.

It is also unclear if the quantum of the increase will be reviewed.



"We accept that natural gas price has to go up. What we're appealing for is that the government stagger the price hikes and give us sufficient leadtime.

"Already in the past two months, we've had to raise glove prices twice, 10 per cent each time, to counter the sharp spike in latex prices and transport cost," he told reporters after an analyst briefing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

"Initially, there was a drastic drop in orders from customers but it normalised recently," he added.

Top Glove posted meagre growth in profits in its recent third quarter results as it did not raise prices immediately amid higher latex and crude oil prices.

Under the June 4 announcement, glovemakers using natural gas of less than two million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) would have to pay a new rate of RM24.54 per million metric British thermal unit (mmBtu) from RM12.87 per mmBtu.

Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd, when contacted, said the government appears to be receptive to their appeal since it had deferred the price hike.

"The original price hike to RM24.54 mmBtu was just too much and too immediate.

"After all, only 15 per cent of the country's natural gas supply allocation is for commercial users and and we're mostly export-oriented manufacturers," said Kossan corporate affairs senior manager Edward Yip.

He also said that glove buyers are willing to pay higher prices but they want the price hike to be justified.

"The rubber glove business is quite transparent in that glove buyers are able to closely monitor raw material prices.

"Just as we pass on cost to glovebuyers, we also pass on any savings. It works both ways," Yip said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Top Glove Corporation Bhd is likely to abort an earlier plan to undertake further acquisitions of smaller rivals and switch its attention to organic growth via the setting up of more factories towards sustaining growth.

Its chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai said it was "moving towards organic growth" despite several glove makers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand having approached the company for possible mergers and acquisitions.

However, he did not outright dismiss the possibility of acquiring those companies if "the assets and technologies suit us". Speaking at a media and analysts' briefing here yesterday on its third-quarter results, Lim said Top Glove preferred to build new factories with new facilities, rather than acquire used assets.

It plans to build two more factories in Klang by next year, each with 16 production lines, which would use biomass-powered kilns instead of natural gas in producing heat to dry gloves.

Petronas had on June 4 announced that it would increase the selling price of natural gas by as much as 187% at RM32.56 per million British thermal unit (mmBtu) by July 1. However, the full implementation has been deferred and the increment would take place gradually.

Currently, biomass and natural gas constitute 8% of its overall production cost. He added that the current production cost of using either biomass or natural gas was similar. Natural gas price now costs RM12.80 per mmBtu.

"We are preparing ourselves for it (the natural gas increment). We use biomass energy in our new factories to spread out the risks," said its executive director Lim Cheong Guan, adding that the capital expenditure for the biomass boiler was RM5 million.

Top Glove has four factories using biomass energy - two glove factories in Malaysia and two latex concentrate plants in Thailand. Its 20th factory, which is currently under construction in Klang, would also be using biomass energy upon its completion in October.

"We may fully switch to biomass energy if the natural gas price surges as much as 160%," Lim Wee Chai said.

On another matter, Top Glove would spend RM10 million in expanding its existing 65 latex centrifuge machines to 101 within six months, to have more internal supply of latex. Top Glove has 25% of global market share.

Meanwhile, he expects the decision on the nitrile glove patent infringement allegation filed by Tillotson Corporation, to be known next month in the United States.

"We (the seven defendants) are optimistic about the decision. Nitrile gloves existed long time ago," Lim said, adding the company would not sue Tillotson to claim the legal fee if it won the case.

"We want to focus on our business. After dividing the legal fees between seven parties, we only need to pay about RM1 million plus," he added.

Top Glove also hopes to pass all rising costs to customers. Currently, some 80% of the costs have been passed to its customers. Gloves prices have increased by 20% following the measure.

  PUTRAJAYA: Industries will enjoy a 70% discount on the market price of gasbeginning July 1. The discount will be gradually reduced over 11 yearsby 5% to 10% until it reaches market price.

Minister in thePrime Minister's Department Tan Sri Amirsham A. Aziz said for small andmedium sized industries, they would get their discounts graduallylowered within 13 years.

This new structure, he added, was tocater to the appeals from industries to reconsider the Government'srecent announcement to increase gas prices on June 4.

"We feltthe plight of the industries. There are some 1,500 companies which wereaffected by the previous announcement and they are critical to theeconomy.

"Under this new structure, industries using more than2mil cubic of gas a day, will enjoy the new price of RM23.88 per mmmbtu(million British Thermal Unit), down from RM32.56 per mmmbtu, which wasto have been effective this month.

"Those using less than 2milcubic of gas a day, including 8,887 households which had gas piped indirectly to their homes, will enjoy a price RM22.06 per mmmbtubeginning Aug 1," he told reporters Friday at his office here.

The pricing formula would be adjusted each year according to the market price of gas then, added Amirsham

"Totalsubsidies will be borne by Petronas," he said, adding that the newpricing structure would however not
be applicable for gas supplied tothe energy sector. The discount is only for industries in thePeninsular Malaysia.

Amirsham said it was important to introducethe new structuring scheme as currently, Peninsular Malaysia was a nettimporter of gas, with supply coming from Indonesia and Vietnam.

"Wedon't have enough to cater to the local industries here. With thisstructure, we hope to be able to encourage industries to be moreefficient as well as build a sustainable policy of gas use.

"Inthe long run, our industries should be able to slowly adjust to the newprices of gas and transform themselves to effectively compete," he said.

Besidesthe discounts on the price of gas, Amirsham said the Finance Ministrywas still considering offering other incentives to industries.

He said the ministry was also looking into the imposition of windfall tax on independent power producers.

手套制造商没有钢铁业者“幸运”，由于本月交货的订单价格，是根据旧价格计算，因此业者难调成本，唯有“苦吞”成本涨幅。

拉昔胡申分析员说，调整天然气价格，将影响7月份的盈利，业者为免被冲击，必须将售价调高5％至6％，但受旧合约牵制，业者难以调整价格，业者业因此面对赚幅收窄的问题。

艾芬投资研究也说，对橡胶业者最大的挑战，并非价格，而是未来天然气供应对拓展计划的影响。

“手套商的盈利动力，来自‘产量’，因此拓展计划缩小，将冲击赚幅及评级。”

拉昔胡申投资研究将手套业者的评级，从“增持”转为“中和”；艾芬投资研究则维持“减持”评级。

在有能力维持赚幅及拓展计划之际，应付生产成本，是重新评级的催化剂。

（吉隆坡14日讯）政府将工业用天然气增加111％至135％的举措，对高用量业者较有利，但却削弱了整体制造商的价格竞争力，并可能加速业界的并购活动。

政府在上周宣布，工业及家庭用天然气价格的涨幅介于111至135％，并在未来12年渐进式的减低补贴5％至12％。

亚欧美投资研究主管邱武益说，上述举措对高用量业者较有利，政府较明确的补贴大纲，也让业者有能力计划长期价格调整。

“为减低成本，业者将把增加的能源成本转嫁给消费者。相比之下，享有27％‘折扣’的高用量天然气业者（大于2百万英制热能单位），较小型业者有能力转嫁成本；小型业者仅享有10％的折扣。”

然而，他依然认为这并非“亲商”的举措。他说：“相比区域业者，大马制造商将逐渐失去价格竞争力；业者也会面对工资增加、赚幅削减的冲击，小型及效率较低的业者，将面对现金流量转为‘负数’的风险。”

以橡胶手套业者为例，天然气之前占橡胶手套制造商成本的4％至5％，调高涨幅将削减4％至5％的赚幅，这将加速并购活动，苟延残喘的小型业者，将面对被收购的命运。

Rubber glove makers may cut output

If the manufacturers are not able to fully pass on the cost increases in the immediate term, they may have to reduce output, says Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers' Association

MALAYSIAN rubber glove producers may cut production this year as they will have to stagger price increases, rather than do it in one go.

Last year, Malaysian rubber glove makers produced a record 42 billion pieces, commanding 65 per cent of the global market.

However, they have been hit by a weaker US dollar, rising shipping costs and costlier latex.

"If our manufacturers are not able to fully pass on the cost increases in the immediate term, they may have to reduce output," Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers' Association (Margma) president Oon Kim Hung said.

The price hike in natural gas alone translates to an increment of between US$1.50 and US$2.00 (RM4.85 and RM6.46) per 1,000 pieces of rubber gloves, he said in a statement yesterday.

Apart from higher fuel prices, Oon said all Margma's 48 glove makers have to contend with costlier natural rubber latex, nitrile latex, chemicals, packaging and labour.

"The banks, too, are charging higher financing fees," he said.

He estimated the cumulative effect of the weakening dollar, fuel price hikes and costlier raw materials to be equivalent to an increment of between US$7.00 and US$9.00 (RM22.6 and RM29) per 1,000 pieces of rubber gloves.

Despite having to raise the selling price of rubber gloves, Oon said global demand is still strong because safety is a priority for hospitals.

Asked on the prospects of the country's rubber glove exports for the year, he said it would be better than last year.

"Rubber gloves have become a necessity in the healthcare and cleaning services sectors. Demand is growing but supply could be a problem," he said.

We refer to the article entitled “Top Glove issue profit warning” appearing in The Edge Financial Daily on Monday, 4 August 2008, page 1 and 4 and with reference to our reply to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on 25 September 2007.

The Company would like to clarify that the Company has not issued any Profit Warning Statement. The headline of the article published by The Edge was merely its own interpretation from the interview carried out on 29 July 2008.

The Company is able to achieve a higher turnover in FY08 compared with last year, but lower than targeted turnover due to the weakening of US Dollar by around 8%.

The targeted profit of FY08 was affected by the unexpected surge in raw material prices and the inflationary effect. In particular, the oil price which has gone up by around 65% and the latex price increased by around 45% compared with last year. Also, the recent revision in gas price of around 72% by the government also affected the profitability.

However, the Company as always will endeavour to achieve better results than last year, with the commitment of the management team and with the continuous improvement of our glove quality and cost efficiency.

本来就是大家知道的事情。

管理层向股东夸大了盈利的前景，现在还不打算公告股东，

除了營運環境日益艱鉅，盈利成長呈放緩走勢，分析員保持「減持」該股的評級，目標價位維持在4.05令吉。

分析員預期，頂級手套在08財政年的淨利料將上揚14%，寫下1億1800萬令吉的表現，比該公司的內部目標低5%。雖然分析員在現階段繼續保持對該公司的盈利預測，不過，不排除將會下修預測的可能。

关于林的品德，我们有许多品论了。
只是生意兄坚持他的品德没有问题。

我没有质疑林博士的能力，不过看来他向小股东画大饼和之前Private Placement的小动作，的确出现让人怀疑的品德。
