Francesco Antonioli (Cesena): The 40-year-old just edged out Bologna’s Emiliano Viviano for this spot, as he was simply fantastic versus Roma. He came back to haunt his former side with some superb stops, including a stunning block on Mirko Vucinic in the second half. The Seahorses can thank their custodian for their first Serie A point in nearly 20 years.
Defence
Thiago Silva (Milan): Touted by some as ‘the heir to Lucio’, and it’s easy to see why. The player is not only defensively adept, but comfortable on the ball and as a bonus he chipped in with a scrappy goal in the 4-0 drubbing of Lecce.
Andrea Ranocchia (Genoa): 一直以来被寄予厚望的22岁后卫,希望不要好像以前的barzagli到最后不了了之,希望他可以成为意大利的强力中卫 A very secure showing for the Italy Under-21 international, who missed the second half of the 2009-10 campaign with injury. He kept Antonio Di Natale and company fairly quiet and looks to have completely recovered for a bright and promising future.
Davide Astori (Cagliari): 23岁的中卫,又让我遐想意大利中卫的人选又多了A near-perfect defensive display from the centre-back against an attacking Palermo side. Precise in his challenges and able to anticipate his opposition, he is one player who could attract interest from bigger clubs down the line. Midfield
Edgar Alvarez (Bari): The Honduran used his pace to slice the Juventus backline to shreds at the Stadio San Nicola to great effect, always providing an option on the counter for the Galletti, who picked up a superb opening day win over the Turin giants. If only he was a bit calmer in front of goal...
Sergio Almiron (Bari): The Argentine was excellent against his ex last season and that trend continued into 2010-11, he was the architect of their victory over Juventus, also providing splendid assists for his team-mates and slowing down the play when necessary.
Andrea Pirlo (Milan): It’s a true joy to watch Pirlo when he is at his best, and the old-fashioned regista dictated play in the middle of the park for the Rossoneri with consummate ease. Will Massimiliano Allegri be able to get these types of performances out of the veteran all season?
Yuto Nagatomo (Cesena):日本佬强 We’ll push the full-back up to midfield for our purposes. His forward runs and incredible effort were pivotal at the Stadio Olimpico as he worked tirelessly in a scoreless draw. Nearly capping his debut with a goal as well. The Japanese international has shown signs of being a fine addition to Serie A. Attack
Sebastian Giovinco (Parma): 原子蚂蚁可怜被尤文抛弃,希望他可以真正成为强者好过另外一个被抛弃的Palladino
Juventus looked short of ideas in their match, so maybe they should have kept this diminutive playmaker, who had plenty of them for the Gialloblu. His assist for Valeri Bojinov was sublime while he also hit the post from a set-piece. A fine Parma debut for the 23-year-old.
Ronaldinho (Milan): Selected as Goal.com’s Player of the Week, the Brazilian was at his sparkling best and simply unplayable at the San Siro. He directly set up two goals and left Lecce’s defenders scrambling time and time again throughout the match. Well done Ronnie!
Alexandre Pato (Milan): When Pato is fit, he is a terrifying prospect to face. The young Brazilian’s brace showed all his technical ability, for the first he finished well into the bottom corner and for the second his run beat the offside trap before he rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home. A ‘Dinho, Pato, and Ibra trio? Serie A fans can hardly wait.
