槟州国阵一直在高喊槟城自由港。但这自由港是可能的吗?还是国阵的另一个谎言?看看下面的这个分析,我们就可以看到国阵的自由港口号真的就只是一个口号而已。实际上是不可行的。又或者执行上可能更加多问题。
当年的自由港就只局限于槟岛。当年就只有渡轮连接槟岛和威省。当年的槟岛情况就好像现在的Pulau Langkawi。如果以现在槟岛来回威省每天的汽车流量,要如何控制呢?

With the construction of the Penang Bridge in the 1980s and with a second bridge now almost complete, it should also be obvious to any Penangite that establishing customs posts on the bridges, ferries and future water taxis linking Penang Island and the mainland would be practically impossible, not least because of the traffic disruption this would cause on all cross-channel links. Only if the free port encompassed the whole of the state of Penang, as before the Second World War, could one avoid the need for customs checks on the cross-channel links, though one would instead require them on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway and on two sections of the North-South Expressway. Furthermore, the mainland population of Penang now forms the majority of the population of Penang, and gone are the days when mainlanders were content to be second-class citizens in Penang. But free port status for the whole state would be even more costly to the federal government than a free port covering only the island, and no such proposal has been raised.
现在邓章耀宣布竞选武吉登雅,威省居民应该就自由港课题当面质问邓章耀自由港是否包括威省,如果包括威省,威省连接其他州的大小道路有多少条呢?在关卡方面是如何执行的。如果这些问题没有得到明确的解答,自由港口号就是捞取选票的谎言而已。
