The Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN's) Second Generation Patrol Vessel - Littoral Combat Ships (SGPV-LCSs) will be equipped with torpedo launchers from UK-based marine and naval systems developer J+S Ltd, the company confirmed to IHS Jane'son 23 September.
The six vessels, which are based on DCNS' Gowind design, are on order from Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd under a MYR9 billion (USD2.77 billion) contract awarded in 2011. The tender to install the torpedo launcher systems was awarded by Contraves Advanced Devices Sdn Bhd - a joint venture between Boustead Heavy Industries and Rheinmetall Air Defence AG - which is also supplying the SGPV programme with surveillance radars and sonar systems.
