Dato’ Tan was born in Pontian, Johor, in 1948. 1970’s - Involved in family agricultural business activities.
1980’s - Established Syarikat Keratong Jaya. The company involved in FFB Harvesting and Estate Replanting contracting works awarded by ESPEK Ulu Keratong DETAS Plantation Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of RISDA.
- Started real property investment in Segamat, Johor.
- Incorporated Union Enterprise & Simly Enterprise with the royalty of Pahang. The corporations operate as main sales agents for DETAS Holding Sdn. Bhd.
- Started property investment and developing activities in Johor Bahru.
- Awarded DIMP which carries the title “DATO” by Sultan of Pahang on October 24, 1989.
1990’s - Incorporated Pekan Nenas Industries Sdn Bhd for industrial development project known as Pekan Nenas Industrial Park.
2000’s - Ventured into housing development activities in Taman Putrimas, Simpang Renggam, Johor.
- Acquired Kukup Golf Resort.
- Launched Grand Paragon Hotel, an owner managed 4-star hotel in Johor Bahru on November 11, 2008.
During his four decades of illustrious entrepreneurship, Dato’ Tan has successfully ventured into diverse sector of business activities. Hotel, entertainment, sports and recreation, warehousing, property development and property investment. He has also managed to accumulate a sizeable land bank which will take many years to develop. Most of these business and land banks are operated and held by incorporated companies controlled by him. Other than assets held under the Joland Group of Companies, Dato Tan has an estimated RM50 million worth of various unencumbered parcel of lands and properties registered under his personal name.
