UEM Land Bhd, the master developer of Nusajaya, has allocated RM14 million to roll out internet connectivity in the area, said UEM Land Holdings Bhd managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim.
UEM Land is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UEM Land Holdings Bhd.
He said the project, covering more than 4,000 residences, is a partnership with Telekom Malaysia Bhd's (TM) high speed broadband (HSBB) service, UniFi.
Under the collboration, four housing schemes -- Puteri Harbour, East Ledang, Nusa Bayu and Nusa Idaman -- will have free HSBB connectivity for up to two years, he told reporters after signing the agreement with TM Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa today.
Following this, TM will play an integral role in establishing the eco-system to elevate Nusajaya into Malaysia's model of a completely modern digital city by bringing in world-class telecommunications as well as information communications and technology services.
Nusajaya is part of the five flagship zones in Iskandar Malaysia, one of the largest property developments in Southeast Asia.
Wan Abdullah said the company does not consider disposing of its land in Nusajaya a priority at the moment, but will consider it if it forms part of its strategic plan.
"We are not in the business of selling land, we only sell it when it is strategic to us. All this while, we have articulated the way to create Nusajaya is to create smart partnerships.
"If the order is strategic to our intent, we will consider," he added.
TM's UniFi service has been available in Nusajaya since July 2010.
To date, TM has activated more than 548,000 Unifi subscribers on the back of 1.39 million premises passed covering 102 exchanges nationwide, which translates to a take-up rate of more than 38 per cent going beyond global benchmarks of similar service roll-outs.-- Bernama
